Dear Exparts,I need to cut 2 types of metal plate with following specificatios:Thickness: 0.5 inch & 1 inchlength : 20 inchYield Strength: 551 MPaTensile Strength: 620 MPaElongation: 16%What punch force I need to have to cut these job?
Reply:Most shear nameplate ratings are for mild steel so you'll need to adjust for your material. 1/2" mild steel requires 12.5 tons per inch and 1" requires 25 tons per inch. 20" width will basically take 250 tons for 1/2" plate and 500 tons for the 1" plate. You might want to read up on the variables and formulas in a manual like this:http://www.e-ci.com/pdf/Shear-Capacities_PT30491.pdfHere's a handy tonnage chart you can print:http://www.freetechnicalcharts.com/m...to_Shear_1.pdf
