My youngest has a Ford 250, Big tires, lift kit, the whole bit. He's been wanting a upper deck to haul two quads plus tow his trailer. I gave it a shot. Pick heavy here. The truck and the basic start of the frame works. built on a rotisserie to keep my knees off the cement. Makes the welds easy to get to too. Reply:Adding to the frame work. The biggest challenge was to make a sub frame and upper frame work that will allow the tool box to stay in place plus be utilized in an emergency if needed. Reply:Trays for the quads added. Holds tow quads. The center trays placed in the center is for two quads, one front one rear. The center trays spaced away from each other is so he can haul one quad in the center of the carrier and tack the very front tray and rear tray out and allow free access to the tool box and tail end. Reply:Couple more in place shots. Attached Images"The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:The quad gets loaded with the winch. The top of the deck is 60" high. I made a winch post for one side and a knock down cable brace for the quad being loaded side. Sorry these aren't coming out in any sort of sequence. Reply:More loading shots. I've since made a couple of alterations to the winch stake and finalized the knock down riser. Sheesh. Just figured out you can drag these back and forth to be in order. My bad. Reply:Other views. The winch on the quad hooks to the removable rigid post and hooks over (rest on) a riser with a hinge. This all provides a certain amount of lift so the quad is being pulled up the ramp rather than into it. That let me make the ramps as light as possible and still do the job. When the quad reaches the hinged riser post it simply pushes it over and can continue being winched on without the operator having to get arms and hands into the area. Reply:Final one. Redneck remote for the winch. Thanks for looking. Attached Images"The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt

Reply:First of all, really cool idea and design.Secondly, that is an amazing use of engine stands. Genius.
Reply:I like the idea of the holder for the winch line. just one question, what keeps the first pole from falling down while the drag of the winch line run on it? I am thinking it's the angle at what you set the pole to.great jobEsab 253 mig welderHobart 210 mvp w/ C25 gasmiller 225 a/c stick welderO/A torchHF 40 amp plasma cutter

Reply:I'm thinking that after a few beers it won't be long before him or one of his hunting buddies will be riding that thing up on there. Or trying to anyway. It's right about 45 to 50 degrees. This ole guy would have done it twenty years ago. Not today."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt

How is that for being top heavy? It seems with all the steel you have added up top, plus the weight of the quads and considering the truck has a lift kit and taller tires, it would tend to be kind of tippy. Does it tend to roll more in the turns with all that extra weight so high?
Reply:Nice build.Sled decks are real popular around here.on the rear of the subframe, why did you angle the uprights forward?yep, love the rotisserie too, now looks like you need a Hossfeld bender (I used to use chainlinks for tiedowns too, and it works good, but when you can bend up custom tiedowns it just adds to it.)Lincoln SA 200Esab Caddy 160Thermal Arc 201TSMiller Dialarc HFI don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around the courtroom....

Reply:Really really nice build. I love your shop. Nice use of the stand for weldin er up! You did a great job designing that bed, love the way the supports move so that you can carry one or two. Is there still much room in the bed after the frame is in there? How are you planning on painting that? Bed liner? Normal paint might be a little bit slippy in the rain. Also how is it bolted/strapped to the truck?Originally Posted by dubl_tNice build.Sled decks are real popular around here.on the rear of the subframe, why did you angle the uprights forward?yep, love the rotisserie too, now looks like you need a Hossfeld bender (I used to use chainlinks for tiedowns too, and it works good, but when you can bend up custom tiedowns it just adds to it.)
Reply:I really like this project.  Lot of hard work.  I know your son will make good use of it.  Thanks for showing your equipment. That is a great way to rotate your projects and roll them around with the rotisserie .   Wow

Reply:Looks good.  I like how you kept it as narrow as possible too.  The air bags will make a big difference in the handling, if they end up being needed.

Reply:Just thought I'd show ya where this ends up at. Little place called Ono California. I think I've shown pictures of my sons place before but here's another one. The old house in the back ground on the right is the old house from back in the early 1900's. Not livable any more but they leave it there for the locals. Kind of sentimental thing for what few of the old timers that are left there. Not many anymore tho. Of course you wouldn't be a true redneck if you didn't have a cow mowing the grass, so he's got a few of those. At his house he has the advantage of an uphill slope to load/unload from. Makes it a lot less steep. He showed up here to pick it up and the 1st dayem thing he did was ride it up there without the aid of the winch. Little steeper than what I wanted to try but didn't seem to bother him a lot, course he kept himself in the 'bail off' position all the way too.  Winch just makes it so much easier. Then it isn't my quad either. He can wreck his quad without feeling too bad about it. If I dumped it over the side I'd feel like hammered crap about it. He took a bunch of pics to send (via cell) to all his buddies. He's kinda stoked about it. Reply:Little follow up here. They went up to Idaho this year. Loaded up early one morning the other day in the rain. Left at 5:ish A.M.. Got there at 5:ish P.M.. Just one quad on the truck this trip, plus everything they could put under the quad deck and stack on it. That's his buddy's toy hauler they took up. It'll have one quad in there. That's his buddy standing in the door way lookin all manly in his 'jammies' the next morning..  Attached Images"The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
