How do you know what to set your machine at when welding in MIG, TIG, STICK? Do you just look at the chart on the machine and go from there? I heard metal thickness and different kinds of metal have things to do with the correct setting too. I also heard that say for stick welding you have to account for the specific welding rod youre running say a 6010 1/8" plus the thickness of metal... It all seems a little confusing but I am just wondering if there is some information I can read up on... I have looked but can't seem to look for what I am asking. Thanks..

Reply:You just start welding and if it's to cold you turn it up, and if it's to hot turn it down. It's not too hard Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024

Reply:It all comes in time. You get to a point where you walk up to a welder, knowing what rod / size, wire / size. Then it just comes to you where to set the welder. I’ve seen guys run off for making to many trips back to the welder to re set. Funny, when your pay stops, that is incentive to learn how to set a welder in just a couple tries.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400

Reply:There are apps online from miller and lincoln that will give you the info your looking for.  Remember  these are starting points and you need to adjust from there.  In time you won't look at the app, you will just know where to set it and these settings may be a bit off from the apps.

Reply:I can’t tell you how many wire feed tests I’ve taken, when I walked into the testing booth. There was duct tape over the gauges. They hand you a couple pieces of scrap, and say when you get the machine set to where you like it come get me. They put meters on the leads; if you’re not with in the wire manufacture’s settings, test over. And you get to go home early. Which works out great! So you can start looking for another job!Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400

Reply:For stick welding you take the decimal of the diameter of the rod and that will get you pretty close to wear you need to be. Example:3/32"-.0937 so around 90amps1/8"-.125 so around 120amp5/32"-..156 so around 150ampAnd so on. Those are just to get you close to wear you need to be and go from there. Go luck and keep burning rod!!!
Reply:Each machine is different. What works on your machine may not be so good on another....Then I took the "Suggested Settings" book and threw that away. Each machine however has a "Sweet Spot" for what you are doing and its your job to find it....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
