For sale on Craigslist "$350 for everything".  Seems like something of a deal given the quality and prices of the rest of the stuff.http://austin.craigslist.org/tls/2971934554.html.Worth another look?
Reply:While that has to be the best looking one I've ever saw it's a little over priced IMHO.   That's a AA, 109, Dunlap, etc lathe. It's really tiny by most standards. Dials aren't calibrated, spindle small and weak (many have bent spindles), and back gears are known to grenade fairly easily (they're pot metal).   To give you a idea the spindle is 1/2" OD with a #1morse taper inside. Doesn't leave much meat (popular project is to make a solid spindle without the taper).   I bought one for $50 once many years ago and resold it for $75. I knew what I was getting into at the time but figured I could make a few bucks which I did.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
Reply:Depending what it comes with could be worth picking up. To bad they don't say what model or size. I have a 10F atlas (they made the same ones for craftsman) and love it.
Reply:ooops should have looked through the hole add missed the pics.
Reply:Things do look nice but he is a little high in my opinion.Tim Beeker.

Reply:Thanks for correcting me on the taper. It's been so long that I'd forgotten what size it was.   Another little tid bit of info on this lathe is that you can pick it up with one hand fairly easily. As he said it's really light and flexible.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
Reply:Originally Posted by Rog02I own a 109-21270 just like the one in the ad.  I learned to run a lathe on one just like it and inherited the one I currently own from a great uncle.  Irish gives a pretty good assessment except the taper is a "stub" #0 MT and are rare as hens teeth.  6" swing 12" between centers makes it usable for model stuff only and the thing flexes like crazy so cuts are limited to light cuts only.  Unless you have a sentimental attachment to this model lathe like I do, I would suggest looking elsewhere.  Going price on a Atlas/Craftsman 6/18 is around $350 and it is a much more usable machine.
Reply:There's a lot of odd ball tapers that have been used on lathes over the years. One that comes to mind is a # 4 1/2 morse used on the headstock of some lathes.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
