Hello everybody,So I'm an currently an apprentice. I have been welding not long, about 2 years now. I have done TIG, mig and mma. I have done lots of mig and not much of stick and TIG. I will be joining a big company soon and I will be learning to weld to get coding. I only weld mild steel in my workplace of thicknesses of 2-10mm.I have seen many photos of beautiful welds on reddit and here, it worries me very much. I weld everyday with mig and my welds are never perfect in my standard. From my perspective when I weld I always try to aim for a flush weld that is flat on top never concave or convex.I would very much like some tips or resources that I can use to improve my welding. Is there anything out there as such giving me some tips? Also I have talked to a welder who comes in our workplace occasionally and he said to mig weld everything one handed so it becomes habit? What do you reckonThank you

Reply:I use both hands for MIG when I can, though get used to using just one hand, right and left, kneeling, standing, prone or on your back.  I will do TIG and OAW left handed on occasion.  Also, unless your getting advice from a great welder who has great welds, don't listen to what they say.

Reply:I learned much from Jody when I was practicing for my certs.  Good guy, lots of info, and its free.  Many of us here have purchased his CDs to show our appreciation for all his free work in sharing his knowledge.  You can sign up for his weekly videos and have them emailed to you, then store them in a folder that's labeled for the info you might want to look up in the future.https://www.youtube.com/user/weldingtipsandtricksGarLincoln Electric, Power MIG 256Hypertherm Powermax 45 Miller Dynasty 280DXSmith O/A torchGenesis of a welding table
Reply:Miller used to have a great 12 chapter free TIG welding book online that they removed a while back and per a Miller employee on their forum they replaced it with a $50 and now reduced to $29 paid book.  Fortunately I saved all 12 sections of it and just combined it into a single PDF file for your viewing pleasure and can be downloaded from my Drive .Miller comprehensive TIG Handbook https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bz...DZDNmlISVZKMEk  since updated and replaced with https://www.millerwelds.com/equipmen...065236-no-nameMiller SMAW/Stick Guidebook  https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bz...UEtMV9SNV8tQTgMiller MIG Guidebook   https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bz...XBMSDdab1ZlMnMAnother good Resource in ESAB's online text TIG Handbook:  http://www.esabna.com/euweb/tig_handbook/591tig1_1.htmMIG Handbook  http://www.esabna.com/euweb/mig_handbook/592mig1_1.htmSMAW/Stick Handbook  http://www.esabna.com/euweb/awtc/lesson1_1.htmOxyAcetylene Handbook  http://www.esabna.com/euweb/oxy_handbook/589oxy1_1.htmTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:Wilhelmsen Ships' Services (not too sure about the apostrophe there) has a decent welding handbook. It lacks a bit in the technique department, but does include a pretty good reference for consumable sizes and heat ranges. When they suggest only a modestly- sharp tungsten, it's because the book's written for shipboard use and they don't want people grinding them all out halfway thru a cruise. You can usually get a lot sharper than they suggest.Currently working as a Paralegal, but still interested in hobby welding.Miller Bobcat 225ntOne- Character Fractions: ¼ ½ ¾ ⅛ ⅜ ⅝ ⅞
