Just got my Invertec v205t Ac/DC!wow...what a machine!  I have never used an inverter tig before, and it is impressive.  It seems to be smoother and more forgiving than the transformer machines.  I just played with a little old, dirty aluminum last night.  This unit \has alot more options than other machines I have worked with.  I need to really sit down and play with the settings for awhile  I messed with the pulser and eventually turned it off as I wasn't doing myself any favore with it on.  The only filler rod I had was 4043 Al.......I barely have any aluinum laying around, so I welded up what I could find.  lol.  BTW....I suck at Tig welding aluminum!!!!   Hopefully, that will change soon.I think I'll pick up some steel filler and really work on my techique before trying to conquer Al.  I'm okay running stringers, but I'm still very inconsistant.  When it comes to a fillet (inside corner), I am a disaster!  I can't seem to get both pieces to heat up evenly or get my filler to neatly go into the center of the joint.  The filler ends up on one piece or the other.Prior to getting this tig, I took a couple of class at the local college to get started, but unfortunately, they didn't have a "tig expert" and I ended up self-teaching  Tig.  Kind of sad, really!  So, any tips, tricks, hints, video or book suggestions would be great!
Reply:Congrats on the new machine!Does it make an obnoxious sound when A/C welding?  When the Miller Dynasty's first came out, I would have to weld with ear plugs in.  It was so obnoxious, that I decided not to purchase. It was a weird Buzzing sound that hurt my ears.  The transformer style machines didn't do that.  I have welded Aluminum with SyncroWave, PrecisionTig, and some older machines Esab, Hobart. Will you let me know what you like and what you don't like about this?  Did you get it for a good price?Thanks...... Reply:the sound is different but nothing bad.  i haven't played with it enough to judge yet.  the "sound" difference most likely is from the output frequency  on a transformer machine, the output frequency is 60Hz (or whatever the frequency of the incoming power from wall is....usually 60HZ in the USA) and not adjustable.  On an inverter, the frequency is adjustable.  On the Invertec, I think it goes up to 185 HZ.  that would affect the "sound" when welding.  this frequency is different and separate from pulse frequency....that's a separate function.Like I said, I played with the Pulser for a bit, and then turned it off.  I thought I was going to have an epileptic seizure. (just kidding.)  Not sure what my settings were, but it was driving me batty!

Reply:JOhnny,The 255xt is nice, powerful unit.  I have a friend with that unit......I welded with it once.....damn!  that machine can lay down some wire!  I was imressed with the feed rollers/drive mechanism on the lincoln.  All metal.  I noticed that lincoln uses all metal drives on all their units.  It's alot more substantial than my Hobart.....which has cheap, flexing plastic parts.

Reply:what gas are you running with the 255xt?  if you are using 75/25, try running Stargon (or some other gas mix that has a 90% or greater amount of argon)....your lincoln should go into spray tansfer with that gas!
