This is the first coffee table I have built.  Hoping to sell and build more furniture in the future to put up for sale.  Trying to mix industrial and rustic into my designs. Attached Images

Reply:I love it , i might even have a bash making something similar, its really rustic and if you use some recycled timber then you've got the best of both worlds'Been looking at making something like this for agesEasy to make and does give that rustic, industrial look which so many people like these daysLast edited by Gerry1964; 10-19-2014 at 12:25 PM.

Reply:Very nice!GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Really nice stuff there. I love the contrast of the black and wood tone. Never would have went there on my own. I will definitely experiment with that kind of look. Thanks. Years ago grey and burgundy became two very popular colors and again I never would have thought of it. But seeing them together changed my point of view for sure.                       Sincerely,                            William McCormick
Reply:dakotarich024Your design can look good anywhere due to its inherent flexibility: of size, color and wood. TIG or wire - coped or mitered?Paint or powder coat - and what kind of wood?Opus

Reply:Thanks Everyone for the comments!  I appreciate it.  The table is 48" long, 24" wide, and 19" tall.  The wood is 1" thick cherry with 6 coats of Poly.  The frame is 1 1/4" x 11/4" and 1/8" thick.  The rails between the wood is 1' x 1" also 1/8" thick.  The frame is mitered cut corners with 5 coats of paint.

Reply:That is a beautiful piece. I like the clean lines and smooth transitions between materials. As others have noted, and I agree, wood and metal can go together very nicely if done with good taste; I think that you nailed it.-Niche

Reply:Beautiful. How does the wood stay in, is there a lip on the bottom?www.FirehouseFabricators.comZachLincoln 210mpLincoln SW200Hypertherm Powermax 45xp2x4 CNC Plasma Table.
Reply:Thanks everyone!  There is 2" flat bar welded to the rails under under the wood (one on each end and one in the middle) that supports the wood.  The rails in the middle is 1" by 1" and the outside rails are 1 1/4" by 1 1/4".  The wood is also 1" thick so the 2" flat bar is hidden on the outside rails and are then welded onto the bottom of the 1" by 1" rails.  The wood is then secured by screws throughout the flat bar.  Hopefully that makes sense.
Reply:Really nice clean look!  Bet you won't have any trouble selling it!

Reply:Out of curiosity how do you grind all the seams flat without it showing any through the paint?www.FirehouseFabricators.comZachLincoln 210mpLincoln SW200Hypertherm Powermax 45xp2x4 CNC Plasma Table.

Reply:I use a grinder to remove the bulk of the weld, then switch to a 60 grit flap disk then a 120 grit flap disc.  Then before paint, I skim coat the areas with bondo just to fill in any irregularities.  When the bondo dries I sand everything smooth.   Hope that helps.
