Here's a bumper I did for a customer a little while ago. I build channel iron bumpers for nearly all his trucks. He doesn't care what they look like as long as they're strong and don't come loose. Thus there's no finishing details to close up the gaps like I would do for most people. He prefers to save the money it would take for me to do that. Reply:Looks like the aftermarket brush guard is a Ranch Hand so it is plenty strong to hold up the bumper you built.Nice work! How do you bend that channel like that?GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

Reply:If you get a chance I would appreciate seeing the tooling you are using on your press to make the reproducible bends. That is some impressive work.
Reply:@ irish fixit - 2" sch 40. Serious bending loads. Currently bending several 8ft lengths of 1-3/8 x .095 wall 1020 DOM, via a Pro-Tools MB105, for a Jeep'r project. Manual, no AOH. The "105" works excellent. Interested if you are rip'n the bends manually or via electro-hydraulic/pneumatic assist? Again, sweet work bro. I've never tried to bend channel, and didn't realize you could bend it cold like that without ending up with some kind of wrinkle or something.-------------------------Chemetron AC/DC 300 HFSnap-On MM300L Lincoln SP140 Lincoln AC/DC 225g Lincoln SA200 Lincoln SA200 Miller Bobcat 225GVictor torchesH&M and Mathey beveling machinesMcElroy Plastic pipe fusion

Reply:Just AWESOME!!!! That press is something, and you clearly have some experience using it. What would you say the tonage is? You are quite a craftsman!!! I too never thought you would be able to bend a channel like that without a roller. Just freakin AWESOME! Reply:Wayne, can you bump press i-beam in the same fashion? The edges appeared to stay fairly straight... did you get much pucker? I watched the videos... how many pressings did the second side take... did you count?Wayne thank you very much for the video . I learned a lot from watching. I always am amazed at how well you do things. Keep up the good work. richey

Reply:Had to build another bumper this week. He wanted some of the extras such as paint. Came out nice enough I figured I'd post pictures of it. Also had to remount the cake feeder with springs so it wouldn't tear the bed up and redo some of the wiring somebody did when installing it. Another fairly common thing I have to redo is the filler necks on beds. Most places just throw them in and they won't fill worth a flip. It's a lot of trouble but some careful placement and routing will make them fill a LOT better. Reply:That filler neck can sure be tough to place, especially on full width beds and when they are in the rear. Most folks don't want them in the bed which makes it tough. Reply:The mirrors are a good bit farther out than the running boards even when fully retracted. I did consider that as well when figuring out how far I wanted them to stick out. It took me so long to build that one primarily because I was building and trying a lot till I was satisfied. It's primarily because he's having so much trouble getting around and his boss has even more trouble (he's in a wheel chair a lot of the time) that I built them so big. For normal use I would of probably made them about 2-4" shorter.
