I'm considering purchasing a new toy, does anyone have a milwaukee band file (model # 6101-6)? Are they worth it or  should I get a die grinder instead? I need something that can get into tight spots to clean millscale, smooth out welds and prep metal for welding. I'm a hobbiest that works mostly with 1/8 to 1/4 inch steel.  Thanks steveLast edited by Basicwelder54; 11-09-2014 at 04:16 PM.
Reply:It's a nice toy to have, electric is nicer to use than pneumatic but the belts are wearing quite fast at least mine wich is a cheap pneumatic and belt about 1/2 inch wide,    a carbide burr last forever but produce shrapnell ... they have both their use.
Reply:I have some cheap HF bandfiles (air & electric) and they do have their place. I love them for deburring the inside of a tube after cutting and you don't have to worry about a million little needles on your bench. The electric die grinders with carbide burrs are almost required in a shop (unfortunately). They are great for cleaning or opening up a torch cut hole. I have one set up with a 2"x1/2" flap wheel for cleaning the inside of pipes before welding, does the job real quick.Sent from my GT-P3113 using TapatalkTOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
