So today I started tearing down my shop.  It is supposed to be getting a full complement of new machines but as I am in education that is never a done deal.  I loaded up these today to send off to one of the welding teachers in the county.  It gives me the uneasy feeling that when I come back in August I will have an empty shop but lets hope that doesn't happen.
Reply:So Bub, how many machines total are being traded out? They look as if they are some nice ones. Are all of the new ones going to be one flavor or are you going to mix it up? About 2 years ago, give or take, we made some major changes in our shop. 20+ machines came in new to us and similar to you many others left, however only a portion of them went to other schools, some of them went to welding suppliers and were resold on the open market. In our state we have some interesting laws that govern how state equipment can be disposed/repurposed, or traded off. Would be interested to hear what you changed out from and switched to. Good luck and best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:All of these on the trailer are going to another school.  He is getting 5 TIG machines, 4 MIG and 2 Stick and 2 plasmas.  The rest will go to surplus and on to govdeals.  I am supposed to be getting about 40 new machines.  20 new TIG/Stick and 20 Mig.  (All Millers)  If I get what I requested, and I have no reason to think that I wont, I will end up with 18 x Miller Dynasty 350 Tig Runner, 2 x Miller Dynasty 750 Tig Runner, 10 x Millermatic 350P, and 10 x Millermatic 252.  They are setting me up to have all three processes taught at 20 separate booths, which they are also putting in.  I am excited if it all happens like it should.  We are partnering with a local community college who received a substantial grant to start a welding program and I am going to be the instructor.  It should be awesome.  High schoolers during the day and college kids at night.
Reply:Nice. When the other local tech school in our area got redone a few years back, all the machines they didn't keep ( and there were very few that got kept) all went to scrap. There was no option to buy one. The school didn't want the liability supposedly on any used machines. Sad. While most weren't the newest machines, all worked..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:What liability is there on a used welder? That is a total cop out from the school. Bet the real reason is they thought they could get more for them in scrap.
Reply:I wish you the best. That's where I started pulling certs. After work at the high school through a job training program. There was a waiting list to get in. That was more than a few days ago. Reply:i was an inspector at singsing prison . there was a welding school where some inmates went and  learned to make better shanks and burglars tools.a bunch of new welding machines were delivered and the old ones were put into a dumpster and mashed with a backhoe. made me sick like so many other features of new york state, where the 47% are kissed and  cultivated..
