Anyone know where this red fuz comes from? I am using a 55# spool of Matheson .030 wire. Probably going to switch back to Lincoln cause I never had this before. Could something else be the cause? I have to clean this every 10-15 minutes of actual weld time. It blocks the shielding gas and is causing porosity if left unchecked. Attached Images

Reply:Might also be the copper coating from the wire. Maybe the new brand of wire, maybe a burr in the liner. Replacing the liner would be a good first step.Heating a bit of the "fur" will tell you whether it's metal or plastic.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:hi this is my first post on this site im Stuart form England and run a business making wrought iron gates and railings and also sheet metal fabricationsi get this fur stuff but not a the touch its at the rollers its just a copper coating off the wire i have tried adjusting the pressure on the rollers but still get the same problem
Reply:Check and make sure the drive rolls are aligned right. The groove must be centered on the wire. If off to one side a little. the drive rolls will shave the wire.Gas, wire and liner are all in the same hose. One other thing will shave the weld wire.If you cut the liner with a cut off wheel, it will leave a very sharp edge for the wire to scrape across. Use only wire cutters to trim liners. When drive rolls shave you will see shavings under the drive rolls also.

Reply:The "fur" from a felt pad can come through the liner, exacerbated if the liner is trimmed short. |
