Hey All,I have a chance to pick up a barely used Syncrowave 250 for around $1000.It was purchased new, used a few dozen times then stored for 12 years. Anything to watch out for? Anything I will really miss compared to the newer or newerish Sycro's?I know there is no "Lift-Arc', no pulse like the newer DX models. It doesn't have the optional volt / amp meters or preflow features.I will have to buy a Argon Cylinder and water cooler (previously used the garden hose water cooler technique), but it's supposed to have the torch and other cables, but I haven't seen it in person yet and won't be able to power it up.I will be doing a little of everything, Stainless, Alum, Bronze, Steel, some light fabrication work. I was kind of holding out for a good used Dynasty 200DX but this may be too good to pass up.I should be able to wrangle a 100 amp circuit for power. I understand these older machines are just about bullet proof, but is there anything else to watch out for on a teenage Syncrowave? Thanks - Mark"Never trust anything you read on the Internet" - Abraham Lincoln
Reply:I've had mine (same era as the one you're looking at) for over a year and I use it every day. The one I got spent most of its life in a working machine shop, pushed into a dusty corner and generally neglected. The only thing I did to it was blow it out real well and clean/gap the contact points for the HF. I paid a little more and it came with a cooler, K-size tank, foot pedal, a torch and about 20 lbs of various filler. Yours still sounds like a good deal. Used Syncro 250s of that age are going for around $1800.00 - $2000.00 up here in my part of the country.I never missed the meters on mine, you can find Miller pulser modules (external, I think) that plug right in between the pedal and the welder on CL for around $250 - $300 if you have to have one. Lift arc? Its got HF...Buy it and you'll be happy.EricAWS D1.1 Certified SMAW 3G Unlimited, Open Root FCAW-G 3G Unlimited, w/BackerCellular Tower Reinforcement Welding on the frozen tundra of the greater Mid-West
