Hey all,A while ago I picked up a 4x6" Delco-Warner bandsaw for free. After removing the garbage legs/stand, I removed the motor for ease of movement/dis-assembly. It's intact but needs a little love. The gearbox had leaked from sitting upside down beside a small scrap pile. It feels like a heavy weight gear oil, and I'm aware I need a GL-4 because of the brass gear.I currently don't have any - not to be cheap, but would a NLGI #2 grease work? I have half a tube of synthetic I was to use up because I need to tear down my grease gun - it would be nice to have an immediate use for it. If not, then the proper stuff it is.Also, would ATF eat the yellow metal? I have a bunch of extra generic stuff kicking around since I've also switched to synthetic for that. I can't find any kind of rating on it, it's Motomaster from Canadian Tire. All my synthetic gear oils (my only gear oils for that matter) are API GL-5, obviously a no-no.Any thoughts?Bruce

Reply:I say just buy regular gear lube.
Reply:I scoured the internet regarding brass and yellow metal-safe gear lube. I ended up throwing the remainder of a bottle of redline gear lube in.Miller Diversion 180Hobart Handler 140 (Soon to be replaced with Miller 211?)Miller Spectrum 625 Extreme |
