Started building my coal forge. So far I have the fire pot completed. The bottom plate where the fire is concentrated is 1/2in. Stay tune for more updates on this build. If you like my stuff you can find me on Facebook.  https://www.facebook.com/theangryanv...ngryanvilforge

Reply:Yes my to l would like to make one. Don't know why
Reply:I noticed your post over on iforgeiron....check DSW's posts here as well on his forge build.  He had a heavy homemade firepot similar to yours.

Reply:Thanks DSW. I was just looking you up on IForge Iron. Someone told me to look at your forge. If you like my stuff you can find me on Facebook.  https://www.facebook.com/theangryanv...ngryanvilforge
Reply:My thread on my forge on IFI is pretty much a reprint of much of my thread on the subject here.I assume what I'm seeing in the center of the pot is your design of a clinker breaker. Have any more picts of that? I haven't quite worked out all the details of what you are doing yet. Looks a lot like a design for a sink pop up. I see a loop I assume is to raise and lower the "stopper" but I'm not sure how you are accomplishing this yet.I also like the lip you added to your pot. If I was going to make another one, that would probably be on my list of minor changes I'd make to mine, not that it would make a huge difference. It would just simplify break down of the forge if I wanted to..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:The clinker works like a sink pop-up. I welded a piece of pipe below the clinker and the little rod on the side I can jiggle back and forth to make the clinker flop around. I'm going to mount everything that an old oil tank and its going to be portable so I can take it places if I want to. Let's just say I've got some 36" tires that have a new home with my forge. I'm just missing a hand crank blower. Waiting on some funds for the blower but keep having to fix my welder. It will all come together. Reply:Got some temporary legs on the future forge body tonight so I can start cutting into it tomorrow. I plan for all this to be on a rolling trailer frame in the future. If you like my stuff you can find me on Facebook.  https://www.facebook.com/theangryanv...ngryanvilforge
Reply:Now you lost me. I was thinking when you 1st mentioned the old oil tank, I thought you were going to simply cut off an end and have an oval table. I'm not seeing how this is going to be advantageous to you.  You'll need to put a large sheet in there to hold the fire pot and form your table. You'll have a huge table, way more than you'd ever need.  I've seen large industrial forges smaller than that.I understand the need to make it portable. Mine weighs a ton and really would be best as a 2 person move, even broken down. ( hopefully wheels will solve some of that). I could see using space for transporting tools. ( I had a 2'x3' crew box I used to keep my tools in when I was set up to demo at the Grange fair.) Space for coal storage ( mine was in buckets under the crew box that was up on saw horses), but I'm not seeing the practicality of what you show now.I forget who on IFI built that little portable cabin they used for demos. That I could easily see. I could see building a small 5x8 enclosed trailer to hold all of the above for ease of transport, then small wheels like on Shortfuses rig to wheel it out of the trailer to be ready to work. I could even see a side dropping down and you working right in the trailer as I've seen some guys do with other things at the Grange fair..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:DSW  I picture in my head a built in hood and storage in the back.   With the wheels it will be like moving around some pig cookers ive helped make in the past.
Reply:Ok I can sort of envision that. I've seen a few hull hooded forges. I'm sort of getting the idea like some of the locomotive cabs, The rounded roof above the windows being the hood. The window area being the working part of the forge and the table, and the lower area simply covering the fire pot/blower.Be kind of neat to work out a way to make it look like a steam engine, complete with the smoke coming out the stack... .No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I do have a plate to go inside it. Just waiting to see the inside before I cut anything. I'm in a way hop for an old fashion look in the end.If you like my stuff you can find me on Facebook.  https://www.facebook.com/theangryanv...ngryanvilforge
Reply:Had about an hour in the cold tonight to work on the table for the forge.  Wish it was done so I could have some heat from it.  Table measures 3 ft x 27 in. If you like my stuff you can find me on Facebook.  https://www.facebook.com/theangryanv...ngryanvilforge
Reply:Still cut in the rough , this is the general shop of the forge so far. The bottom edges will fold into the plate holding the fire pot. That will stiffen  the side walls and some angle iron under the plate  to support  it from the bottom   there will also be a divider  wall to separate  the forge  from the storage  area.  A few other  things  I will get to as time goes by.If you like my stuff you can find me on Facebook.  https://www.facebook.com/theangryanv...ngryanvilforge

Reply:That forge will have one BIG *SS hood for sure.  Will look like a locomotive when it's belching coal smoke.   Hey, idea....fab up some big wheels, conn rods and pistons from scrap, tack weld them on the side. Fine looking build so far, keep up the good work.
