MY "New" Welding Machine!!!!

Well I finally made a decision. I went to the sellers house and took the panels off. The machine is set up for 460, not 230. $500 for the machine with ground clamp and stick lead. I still need to change the pins to 230 and plug her in. I didnt want to tip the seller off. Its late and im going to bed. She needs a serious cleaning inside too. Reply:Question... it's set up for 480 right now.  Is it a 3 phase machine?  Most 3 phase machines won't be compatible with 240v single phase powerThere are some single phase 480 machines out there (using 2 legs of 277 instead of 3) that can be run on 240v single phase power.  I can't see in the picture clearly enough to tell if its single or 3 phase.

Reply:Well I got home after work, worrying all day if the machine was going to work after I changed it to 230. I changed the clips and plugged it in, flipped the switch and nothing. I metered the source and had 230. I metered the hots inside the panel and had 60. I took apart the plug and saw the ground was disconnected. I fixed it, plugged it in and flipped the switch. She kicked on her fan and purred.   Then I wanted to try the stick to see if that worked since I have no tig torch or pedal. Took me a few minutes to figure out which switches needed to be on, but she sparked. I ran my first pass at 70. Looks cold, and not the best, but I think my heart rate was way high because I was so exited the machine worked. I dont have a tig torch or pedal yet. If I buy a set can I be sure the tig will work? Thats the reason I baught the machine, tig only. Sticks just a bonus. Aslo the inside of the machine has 20 years of dust inside. Whats the best way to clean it without hurting anything? I am so happy. $500 for a working syncrowave 250. Holy ****! Can anyone recommend a torch and pedal? i wanna go water cooled right from the start.  I noticed ck's swivel torch? also im ganna need a water cooler right? where do i find em?Thank you everyone, and thank you Doug for all your advice. Reply:thank you Doug. Your da man!  I think ill go with the 250a water cooled torch. should be ok right? Adaptors? what kind?  Also whats a decent flow meter at a fair price? and if i run tap water i wont need a cooler? I dont mind running tap water for a while just to get my feet wet....no pun intended.
Reply:Post up picts of that adapter block you have already, as well as the lower part of that machine where the power connections are. I don't know what you have, so I can't say what you need. You need some way to feed shielding gas, water and power to the torch. My machine has gas thru the dinse connector, so I would need an adapter that adds the water feed/return to the line. As far as fittings, I bet they could help you get what you need when you call to order the torch, as long as you can tell them what you have right now.As far as the 250 amp torch, I don't see any issues with that vs the 300 amp one. Again, you'll need to look close at the models to figure out the differences. Again Arczone should be able to explain the differences between the various options on that torch as far as lines etc.I'd still try and see if you can't reach Steve (7A749) over on Millers site as far as washing the inside of the machine. If I was going to wash mine, I'd double check with him 1st to be safe an the exact procedure..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
