I own a tree farm and need to a welder.  I want to use it to maybe repair a bush-hog, or small tasks.  My main objective is to turn a 16 foot trailer into a cooker trailer with shelves, smoker, grill and rooftop.  I havent welded since high school years ago and am unfamiliar with the new technology.  I have looked at the Lincoln 80gl that doesnt require gas and is 110.  Will I be happy, is this too much or too little or just right.
Reply:A Lincoln 80 GL? Is that what I think it is? Here is one that is farmer tested & approved! http://www.mylincolnelectric.com/Cat...et.aspx?p=2494City of L.A. Reply:TangleDiver got it right- the Lincoln AC225 (or if you want to spring for substantially more cash, the AC/DC225) is *THE* Farmer Special!  That welder has been around forever, will do the heavier stuff that you'll need (I'm not sure what a "bush-hog" is but I'm picturing you welding up broken steel tines/harrows-  skookum stuff) and for the AC225- you can't beat the price.     However, you mentioned 110volts- if this is your limitation, the AC225 only runs on 220.  Also, if you're going to be building a smoker, forget about the AC225 for light sheetmetal.  If sheetmetal and light stuff is going to be your thing, there are lots of neat little 110v MIG machines that will be great for that.  But if your primary jobs will be industrial/farm equipment (and especially if you're going to be doing heavy work on trailers that will be riding down the highway) forget about these machines and start looking at putting in some 220 volt wiring in your shop.Lincoln AC225 & MigPak 140, Lincoln Magnum SpoolGun, Miller Spectrum 375-X Plasma, Syncrowave 200 TIG, Millermatic 252 MIG, Miller Digital Elite, General 7x12" horiz/vert bandsaw, 3' box/pan brake, 20 ton press, milling machine, 12x28 lathe, etc.
