"Looking thru gap Tig "

I'm not a pipe welder/fitter but I just watched a youtube vid of a guy Tig welding a pipe joint with the rod going thru the pipe to the other side thru the open root and holding the Tig gun opposite the side your standing on with a lense tapped to the pipe to look thru, no helmet just clear safety glasses, I'll bite, is this for real or us this guy a hack. Look for dynasty 350 " looking thru the gap technique". Reply:This technique allows the welder to achieve a slight amount of reinforcement on the inside of the pipe. This is handy for the over head section of a pipe weld with the tig process. I've never been able to get reinforcement on the inside of the pipe for the over head position of the weld. I can get it flush, but never a crown on the inside. Reply:Been there, done that. Some field weld positions leave you no choice. I can do ok shooting the gap.
