Hey everyone,    I've been trying to figure out how to weld with 1/8" 6010 5p. I've been doing thr whip and pause technique buf I can't quite get it. I'm very far from "stacking dimes and waa just wondering if I could get some pointers. This was at 100 amps    Thia was at ~110
Reply:Hey man that looks pretty damn good for 6010. If you want dimes get out the tig rig.Thermal arc 211iCk flex-loc 150 & 130Clamps, saws & grindersHarbor freight 80 amp inverter
Reply:I know all welding machines are different when it comes to amps, but all that splatter tells me you're running way to hot. I'd try 75 to 80 amps. On my V350-Pro I run 5/32” 6010 around 110-amps. The PowerArc 300 I run 5/32” 6010 around 135-amps. Reply:Probably way too long of an arc length too. Looks like the whipping you are doing is to much. Keep the rod movement down to a 3rd of what you have been doing and reduce the arc length by at least half and see what it looks like then.ChrisAuction Addict
Reply:6010 will never look like a 7018 weld. Once you learn how to recognize the puddle freeze/ fill properties with 6010, you can make it look ok.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:I'd agree they don't look to bad for just starting out on 6010. I'd want to see your whips forward about 1/2 to 1/3 of what I see now to tighten things up more. I'd also agree amps seem a bit high and turn them down some..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Keep it tight, keep it more consistent.  You can make 6010 look really good with the whip and pause method that's what I do.  Keep practicing, it looks alright.  Turn it down to 80.  My old timer welding instructor told me to pretend I was a robot and do the exact same thing whip, pause or what will really help you is every time you whip and pause think "Dig, Fill."  Dig into the base metal and fill in.  You'd be surprised at how much little simple sayings like that have helped me become a better welder.Last edited by Lunchbox148; 11-08-2014 at 11:37 PM.

Reply:A lot of the old timers kept a damp rag and wiped then with it.
Reply:CEP, a bit obsessive on tidyness there. I know you should wipe down tig rods, but washing your 6010's? Do you wax and buff them when you get done as well? .No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Originally Posted by CEPThat could be a lot of your problem. 6010 will dry out on you, and not run correctly. You can recondition them by dipping them in water, and let air dry for a day or two.I think you're running too hot, and like others mentioned, to long of an arc length. What welding machine are you using?
