I know this will seem like a very generic question but I am trying to think of a large (or detailed) welding project around $600 budget or so. Every year I make a larger welding project then my typical projects I make. Last year I made a BBQ Smoker trailer and I can't think of anything that is more detailed or complicated than it that would actually be useful. (As you can tell, I am very bad at free hand plasma cutting.)

Reply:Kinda weird that nothing in the shop needs to be made. The work benches are 3/4" thick tops with I beams for legs so after years of using them, they are still in good shape. The metal racks are built onto the walls and are solid. I thought about making a CNC Plasma Cutting Table but the machine torch head for my cutter would be almost as much as a new plasma cutter. I would by the new cutter but mine is still working fine currently so im planning on saving that for a couple years.

Reply:I second bistineaus idea. Make a new smoker trailer but go all out on it, or add more cool stuff to this one. Yard art is always another option... Something really big but very intricate, And sell it. Use the extra to fund something useful"I thank God for all the freedoms we've got in this country, I cherish even the right to burn the flag, but I'll tell you what, we've also got the right to bear arms and if you burn my flag I'll shoot you"-Johnny Cash
Reply:Home built aircraft? Can't get a lot more complicated that that possibly..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:How come we are just now finding out about this BBQ trailer project? Weren't you supposed to be posting up build photos while it was going on? You may need to swap out that mobile home axle, by the way, for a better one.

Reply:Guys, lets be realistic... His helicopter would never pass FAA specs..... Build a new truck from scratch."I thank God for all the freedoms we've got in this country, I cherish even the right to burn the flag, but I'll tell you what, we've also got the right to bear arms and if you burn my flag I'll shoot you"-Johnny Cash
Reply:Airboat! Simpler than a helicopter, easier than a truck.

Reply:If you REALLY want a complicated welding project, try building something, anything while keeping your hands in your pockets the whole time. That should add a large degree of complication to your build, trying to measure, mark, cut, clamp things and weld using only your feet and other body parts without using your hands at all. Even a simple project can get to be complicated if you try doing it hands free. Don't ask me where you can get leather welding socks for your feet.

Reply:Wow, I was surprised to see how many replies i got, thanks everyone. I was looking to build a new project, but eventually I may add on to this trailer like make the frame stronger because I didnt realize how heavy that smoker was and now the trailer has a slight twist. I kept the cost on this project down by getting an old utility trailer and a 275 gallon oil drum and making it into what you see above. I may try and make some yard art. The reason I did not have a forum post for building this was because I didnt join here until it was finished. I posted it on a forums about smoking meat though in their build area.

Reply:Seems like $600 doesn't go very far when you are buying new steel. Something like a truck bumper that's more planning and work than raw materials might work. A rolling gantry crane would be handy too - if you don't already have one.
