Attempt at a Gatling Gun............

About two weeks ago I got up at my usual time at 3am to visit the head......... during that visit I suddenly thought of building a mock of a Gatling gun........ then went back to bed.......The next Saturday the thought was still there........ So I'm starting....... no drawing....... just a rough idea in my head..........I'll endeavor to update the thread as the build goes........ er um.... as I'm motivated to work on it..........Here are the pics so far...... Reply:I was toying with the idea of Cannon Wheels..... but I think I'm going to mix old with modern and put a hand crank on this one and mount it on a tripod......I have some stainless tube that might work nicely...... The plan is to have the barrel rotate and the gun to rotate on the tripod......I have new ideas each morning at 3am........ yes.... same time each morning.........Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:You can't leaglly put a motor on it! (NF  rule) hand crank all you want. What caliber ? Go with something cheap to shoot.
Reply:It won't shoot anything.........The barrels are 3/4" sch 40.......Mostly for looks only....... the goal is to allow the barrels to rotate by hand crank... but that's about it......IF i was smarter I would make it shoot paint balls..... Reply:Rig it to "shoot" propane. Small dose of air and propane mix followed by a spark. Lots of noise and fire.Looks good so far.

Reply:Bumping my own thread just to keep me on pace.......with the holiday orders coming in i have lost some time and focus on this project......The bump is for my own purpose.... to keep me on track........Next step: remove everything and drill a center hole for an "axle" of sorts........NOTE: at the last trade days..... which was a Veterans day Car show last month...... I set the project up on my table way in the back..... not really to be seen but take up space...... but.... I had no less than 20 Vets come to my booth because they saw the barrels from across the block...... with me sitting in front of them kind of hiding them........ it was the main attraction... just the tacked up barrels.....A Marine can see a six barrel muzzle from a mile away apparently.........Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:With a creative manifold, you could arrange to inject a small charge of propane into the barrels automatically as they reached top dead center; set up some sort of electric spark plug with a contact on the outside of each barrel that would touch a power source right after the propane injection and you could have a lot of fun.Hobart cutting/welding torch.MM252, and nothing else.  My first welder.  Buy once, cry once....but I really would like a nice 50/60A circuit to run it at full strength.A bunch of ideas, and not enough time and money to bring them to life.

Reply:With the propane, it effectively becomes a potato cannon without the potato.... keep in mind that you may not be home when the projectile gets added. Some local teens got into trouble when they fired off a potato cannon in what they thought was a good open area in a fair grounds. The range far exceeded their expectations and the projectile went through a neighbor's window several hundred yards away. Unfortunately there was an infant in a crib right beside the window that caused everyone to get very excited. Fortunately nobody  was injured, but the lesson is there. If you build it, they will come.
