First thought is those old ads from the back of Popular Mechanics and various  comic books. Note: the links to examples might disappear at any moment as they are sold, so just use the info and the main link if they don't work.  ~JEEPS for $40~ buy surplus from your government:Well inflation has hit but ya' still can do that>  for ex: http://gsaauctions.gov/gsaauctions/a...81QSCI12005025I've seen CJs for about $400 with no motor  etc... You can also buy just about any tool power or hand somewhere on the site: for exhttp://gsaauctions.gov/gsaauctions/a...91QSCI12102505and welders of any kind, including SA200s.http://gsaauctions.gov/gsaauctions/a...91QSCI12070713The site is for the entire US Governement, every branch and department and there are items placed for auction throughout the U.S.   Many items are on Military bases or  at some Government warehouse like a BLM shop etc.   The site name is http://www.GovSales.Gov    (I had put .com earlier ... wrong!!! .GOV gets it)When you first get to the site you see the dark blue and white banner and   lots of links for the site.  You can read the info there to get the idea of how it works.    The site is split up by State and then items available in that state.  What I do is choose any link  in the tabs for ex: industrial.   That gives me all the industrial items available. Then I usually am only thinking close to me so I go to the right and select a State... for ex: Arizona.   That will bring up all the items for auction in Arizona.   The search works well try that too.  If an item interests me I click it and that brings up the item and info for it.  When does the auction start? minimum bid etc... Usually there are some pics.  Rarely are those very accurate.  If you are going to spend large $, go SEE the item and decide if your hard earned $  should go there.  Description is pretty good, if they say it is scrap and shot... it is.  If it says repairable, usually it is.  Sometimes it is aok and ready to use.   The item page also tells you where the thing is, who to contact to see it or pick it up if you win.Note: there are homes, businesses, ranches etc too... all legit and interesting. One weird thing is how to register and Log in.  The only registration link is on a item page top right.  Log in too.  So just find an item in any state, click it and then  click the register link upper right corner and it will let you register.  Now, Log in and click  ~My Preferences~.  You can add info you want and your CC info from links at the left.  Now you are loaded and ready to go. BIDDING:  Very different than eBay>  Bid early, bid low to reasonable and be the top bidder.  Right at the end they let the bidders do a final show down bidding thing, It works like this>  bid... wait 30 minutes for a counter bid etc... till somebody says uncle.  It's fun but start with something small and easy to practice.   If you win they send you an email and a link to pay via your CC. Log in, pay 'em, get your receipt printed and go get your gear. Sometimes it's good to call first and  be polite with the warehouse fella'.   Glitches: Refreshing the bid page after you bid can give your competitor another 30 minutes so after you bid during showdown at the end,  sit tight... IF you win it tells ya'. If you are outbid, it tells ya'.   Practice makes perfect, it is a little goofy. Ending times are  East Coast watch the time,   often you will be  ~timed out~ while logging in or paying etc... use the contact us for help  or be patient.  If you  miss something, no big deal the government has a lot of stuffGood neat odd stuff like huge lathes CNC etc  > White Sands New Mexico This is used stuff but often like new.  Still, best to be aware that the picture may not tell you the whole story.  When in doubt, skip it or go see it.   Have funthis is up right now for a fella who needs one??? http://gsaauctions.gov/gsaauctions/a...81QSCI12004003  .Last edited by PapaLion; 10-14-2011 at 04:59 PM.Lincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools

Reply:Thanks Southpaw,   I should have mentioned that for sure.  Yup, that's the DoD /Military sister site. You can get there from a link at the top of govsales.gov  Both are good  IMHO the military stuff is more ~used~ but sometimes it is a  kick.   GSA is also covered by govsales.gov. It is included.  Often good vehicles from GSA.  The vehicles you see are usually at a Manheim  ~live auction~  AFTER they are online.  Either way you buy them and then go pick them up at  a designated Manheim location. You can pay there in cash or CC.   Pics will not show the smaller wear like scratches.  Expect more wear than it appears, miles are accurate and Manheim is legit and very courteous.Lincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools
