I have a power mig 300 and I thougt it would be a good idea to upgrade the software.  Well I guess I so go by the saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it".  During the update I got an error and the software update crashed.  Now the welder won't turn on.  I can hear it buzzing but the display dosen't show anything.  What do I do now?
Reply:You may try the clear all (it's the same for PM300/350's but not published in the 300 manuals).POWER MIG 350MP “CLEAR ALL” PROCEDURE1. Hold “select” switch up while powering up machine.2. Release “select” switch when displays show “Pres sPin”.3. Turn the right “encoder knob” until displays show “Clr All”.4. Toggle the “select” switch up and release.5. Machine will reset itself. If this doesn't work you'll need to call Lincoln.Matt
Reply:Matt,     Thanks for the tip, I ran out to the shop and gave it a try.  Unfortunatly it did work.  I sent an email to Lincoln we will see what they suggest.  I hope I can get this going again without costing an arm and a leg, I just don't have the cash to make it happen at the moment.  While doing the update it looks like the software was trying to update the PM 300 with PM 350 files.  I have done a lot of firmware updates on all sorts of electronics and never had a problem.  I feel this is a Lincoln software problem.  Thanks again for the help.  I will keep you all updated.
Reply:the update changes the pm 300 to a pm 350.Did you save the back up files when you did the up date?Down load the power wave utilities program. This will allow you to do some diagnostics. You can also run a snapshot and e-mail it to Lincoln. PM me  or e-mail at yahoo and I will get you the phone number to don and robert in the power wave group. There maybe a way to reverse the update.Unless the control pcb died. very expensive.Tell me where you are locatedWe some times have problems with the first generation pc boards that have never been updated.
Reply:ccawga thanks for the reply.  I have been in contact with Don @ Lincoln and he is helping me figure this out.  We think it has something to do with a low quality USB to serial adapter.  I have a now one on order and it should be in tomorrow.  I can tell you that the level of service that I have recived from Lincoln is unbeatable.  It is so nice to know that there are still companys out there that stand behind what they build.  There is still something to be said about made in the good ol USA.  On a side note what do you mean by the upgrade turns it into a PM350?  I know these machines are vary similar, but to be honest I was just updating it to tinker around.  I am the type that keeps all my electronic up to spped as far as current firmware, drivers and so on so I thought it would be a good idea to update the PM300.  Can't hurt right?  Well maybe but I get her going again.  I will keep updating this as time goes on.  By the way  I am just a little North of Grand Rapids Michigan. Thanks,Kevin
Reply:I asked don about this and he sent me this e-mailI have had some problems with older Power Migs but you should be able toturn power off and on and try programming again.   I recommend using acomputer with a real serial port rather than a USB adapter if possible. You can also try slowing down the transfer speed in System Update Utility:Connect to the machine with normally and let the program get ready to program.  Before clicking "Continue" button, right-click next to the button and select Preferences from the Configuration menu.In the Preferences dialog, right-click again and select "Show Advanced Options".  Select the Advanced tab and check "Slow" for transfer speed. You can send any boards that won't take the update to me and I'll give it a shot or call to discuss. So keep trying and get back to Don if it does not work.
Reply:about where are you located?
Reply:Well the PM 300 is back up and running, a big thanks goes out to Don at Lincoln.  It ended up being the USB adapter cable that I was using.  POS china thing.  He recommend a couple of cables that I ordered thru Tiger direct.  I retried the update and it went thru with no problem at all.  The overall level of support I got from Lincoln is outstanding, for them to support a welder that is eight years old without a single question speaks for a great company.  I have no experiance in talking with Miller or other companies, but I know I am walking away a very happy camper after this little mishap.  If anyone has a problem updating their machine fell free to contact me and I will give you the model numbers of the cables I used.  Thanks for all of the support.
