Weld-Pak 100

Hi all.  This my first thread to post.  Let me start off by saying that I love this website.  Lots of information here.My question is about the Lincoln Weld-Pak 100.  Is this welder capable of welding stainless stell and aluminum?  I already have the mig conversion.  I have looked around and became confused quickly.  Thanks in advanceRush
Reply:i am pretty sure that you can do s.s. but i dont think that  the 100 is going to have enough umph for aluminum, the best thing to do is go right to www.lincolnelectric.com that will tell you everything that you need to know about your machine, good luck, brian
Reply:Big not real sure of the Weld Pac, as they are made for the home centers, the machine may look the same and take most parts the the other Lincolns use, however they do lack a lot of power. SS may not be too much of a problem if its small, alum is a differant story as you may need a little more power for an extended length of time. do not get me wrong the machines are great for starters and work great for body and fender work.Heavy work will really shorten there life.Hope that helps.Bernie
Reply:I was wondering about the weld-pack 100 and weld-pack 3200 that I saw at Home Depot so I called Lincoln at 1-800-833-weld to ask about them.  The guy was really helpful and explained that these were specially bundled (for Home Depot) versions of the Lincoln SP 135T model, the 100 being lower amperage than the 3200. He went on to explain that the SP-135 Plus, with infinite voltage control, was only sold through specialty welding shops and was not available at all through Home Depot or other home improvement stores.  Hope this helps.
Reply:Not sure if anyone is still interested in this, but I have a weld-pack 100 bought it about 10 years ago at Costco, did the gas conversion and have welded up stainless.  So it can be done (large hole in my header from the axle Ujoint) , not sure about aluminum though.....

Reply:Lincoln has also a weldpack that goes up to 175amps.Just a little more power, but it makes a big difference.cheersfrank
Reply:i read in the manual that it can weld thin gauge aluminum. the local welding supply store told me that lincoln makes a aluminum conversion kit for the weldpack 100 also. im not sure if this is true but its what the pro told me
Reply:Oh for sure Lincoln makes akit for those to go to alum, liner, valve,rollers, and a new tip. However, get ready for some real fustration with birds nests. The first time you run it for alum, run a small spool and try to keep the gun cable as straight as possible. Use the small spool so you do not have to throw out a whole 10 lbs of the stuff.Bernie
Reply:Birds nests?   Wire backing up is what I think it means. If so how do es one avoid this?
Reply:If you really insist on throwing money away just invest in the alum. welding kit for the 100. I have been there and done that. It is the most flusterating thing to pass though my house in many years. You will spend more time undoing and rethreading from bird nest than you will ever spend welding. I am not sure of the stainless but it would seem that it might be ok. I never tried it as I wanted a alluminum machine and this is not one for it. Ended up selling it all and bought a miller 180 sync. as at the time  the local dealer did not have any that would fill my need so I changed color... there all fine machines.. just like a mechanic, get the right tool for the job and you won't have to cry about  a bad investment. have a great day, and  use the  little 100 for just wire on small jobs.one good deed is worth a thousand good intentions
