I found out I have a different carb  (zenith 14533) than the original one that is supposed to be on the welder. I have rebuilt the carb and it ran well for a short time. The original problem was fuel would pour out and leak over everything. I found out that the floats was stuck and when I rebuilt it the problem appeared to be fixed. It is now doing it again and I have taken the lower portion off and rechecked the floats everything appears to be in the right spot. But it still leaks full as though the float is stuck. I have tried adjusting the floats a little just to see it anything would make a difference. Nothing yet. Looking for some help on this. I'm considering a new carb (the original model) but I hate to spend the extra cash on a new one.
Reply:Is the float 'gas logged'?  That is does it have a hole in it where gas has been able to get inside the float? It's rare but when it happens it throws the float adjustment off because the gas inside the float lets it sink into the gas in the bowl allowing a higher and higher fuel level until it overflows.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Have you checked the fuel inlet and seat area for debris or damage?  Same goes for the needle.  It only takes a little nick or scratch to allow gas to leak by.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Only because the previous owner tossed that useless screen in the sediment bowl because it kept falling out anyway. Hope steamboat can find the cause of the problem.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Going out to get more gas and to retry the latest carb fix. I will go over everything once again to see if I picked up some debris or a burr. I will tell you what comes up.
Reply:Well changed the float level took everything off and cleaned with an airgun reassembled still leaks.????????? gave up on it this try and retry has been going on for over a week. Should note the carb does not leak when the motor is running just when I turn the welder off, then it leaks pretty good.
Reply:Is it leaking out the gas trap on the bottom or is the bowl gasket leaking? Have you put a kit in it or are you using the old parts?RD 1984 Chevrolet C30 welding truck1966 Lincoln SA200 Continental F162 1942 Lincoln SA200 Hercules IXB-51991 Lincoln LN25
Reply:Good point Robert.steamboat - I assume it is leaking from the gas trap as Robert has asked.  Does it leak continuously or just for a short period of time (less than a minute)? What I'm getting at is when the unit shuts down, the governor moves the throttle to full open because it 'thinks' the engine is loaded down.  As such, the carb will allow a large amount of gas to enter the intake manifold - some of which never makes it to the cylinders.  This excess gas then runs down into the carburetor body and out the overflow drain in the bottom. The attached cross section of the two carbs used on the SA 200 show what I'm talking about.Page 37 from L-Head_Overhaul.pdfMM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:I have rebuilt the carb with new parts except I used the old idle needle screw. The one that came with the kit was smaller in length so I didn't use it. I took  another look at the needle screw and  as you said duaneb55 I  did have some grooves and minor marks. I just replace it with the new one that came in the rebuild kit and guess what the fuel flow problem is now gone. I must have taken the carb apart ten times today and the fix was the idle needle screw go figure.  I did get five to ten drops of fuel that came from the fuel trap when the machine was turned off. After reading the last couple of posts I think this may be ok.Last edited by steamboat519; 07-31-2010 at 09:28 PM.Reason: spelling
