miller 64m feeder problems

running into an issue with the wire either not feeding right or binding up where the wire feeds into the liner. it will be working fine and for no reason when i go to weld it binds up and the wire start coiling around the rollers, ive adjusted tension on the rollers the best i can. buying a new feeder is out of the question for now, and i cant find anything in my manual to help with this
Reply:Time for a new liner? They do where out or get clogged. Has anyone put wire lube on the wire ? Reply:Oh, and over tensioning the drive rolls can deform the wire leaving shavings in the liner. The shavings can pack up at the tip. Some two, three times.Sounds like a gun problem. Get a new gun or change the liner and consumables.If the OP were having any issues with the electronics end of things I would expect feed without gas flow, arc start or volt sense errors, or problems with the displays. Those are quite common when one takes a dump. There are a couple quick fixes for the start and voltage errors, but if they don't correct the problem, start looking for a used head that hopefully has compatible boards in it. I usually tell ppl when they start having issues with them to chuck the thing in a corner and buy a non microprocessor feeder. Sell it for parts non working on eBay and don't look back.Nothing and I mean nothing about them is cheap or easy to fix when it comes to the electronic part of it. Reply:any suggestions on another feeder that wont cost me a fortune. I can weld for 30 min without a problem and then for no reason it binds up where the wire feeds into the liners, im going to order a new gun because the one i have is an old one from work. it functioned fine there but i planned on buying a new one anyways
Reply:Depends what you wanna spend. A halfway good 60 series standard feeder will prolly run you $400-750 on the Bay. May be able to score a cheap 50 series for a few hundred bux if you keep an eye out on the Bay and CL. s 22 and 22A feeders come up for sale once in awhile, the latter bringing $400-500 on average for a good one.You may wanna look for a complete CP 200-300 with a feeder on it. Reply:I agree with Terry. It's not sounding like an electronic issue to me. If it were, the problems would be different and you likely wouldn't be making any sparks at all.Get a new gun. Check the spool hub for correct assembly and ensign. Should have just enough drag to stop the wire spool from turning once you stop feeding wire. Take the four idler carriers out with a 1/4" Allen wrench and inspect them for any excessive grease or foreign matter. Reply:what mig gun do you guys suggest i wont be welding anything over 3/8 and most of my work trailer frames and roll cages nothing to thick i dont want to buy more than what i need  if i get into the heavy stuff i will address a new gun then, i am looking at the tweco guns but all ive ever used is miller brand guns, im looking to spend under 200 if possible
Reply:i replaced the liner and it works great. i let my 15 year old beat the **** out of it this weekend and we never had a problem with feeding problems. thanks for all the help i was tired of beating my head on the wall trying to figure it out.
