Alright guys the test I had to pass for the job I was on had me do a downhill butt and a 12on12 branch. What all tests have yall had to take for PIPELINE welding specifically. Just want to be ready for any curve balls that may be thrown at me.
Reply:1g (pipe), 2g (pipe), 5g, 6g1g is where you rotate the pipe as you're welding- either using a machine, or doing it by hand between passes. 2g is a simple horizontal joint going all the way around the pipe. 5g easy to visualize but hard to explain- take the pipe from 2g and knock it over- it includes vertical, overhead, and flat. 6g is like 2g, but the pipe is locked at a 45-degree angle.Make damn sure you have an auto-darkener when you do pipe tests, because any visible arc mark is an auto- fail. They may also make you do tests with a restrictor plate around the bottom of the pipe. Messing with the plate is an auto- fail.If they hand you pipes with a double bevel, laugh and then ask them where your real pipes are.Currently working as a Paralegal, but still interested in hobby welding.Miller Bobcat 225ntOne- Character Fractions: ¼ ½ ¾ ⅛ ⅜ ⅝ ⅞
Reply:The test you mentioned in the OP is the standard test. |
