Sealed can of 7018?

Local shop has an older 50lb sealed can of 7018 rods that I can get for less than $0.50/lb....any reason I should pass?  I know the can is still sealed, so the rods should be dry, but has anyone ever opened a sealed container and found contaminated rods?

Reply:If you're going to burn them up practicing, I'd say go for it.  If they're meant to make you money on a job, then you be taking your chances.

Reply:Yeah, you may find that a lot of the flux has been knocked off from the can being abused. I wouldn't even use them for practice but that's just me.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

Reply:I just bought a 50lb can of older 7018 as well.   The can was not all beat up so I figure the rods should be ok.   Brian
