Several years ago I was restoring a snowmobile for my nephew. The muffler had a few small cracks that needed to be repaired. I took it into work & had our welder weld it up. When he was finished (he cleaned up the welds afterwards) & I picked it up it looked good as new. When I asked him what rod he used, he made mention of a "low temp" rod (I think). Does anyone have an idea of what he may have used?
Reply:could be something from eutectic.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:Could of been electrodes from those guys at Lawson Products that make all the Corona stuff. They offer some really exotic electrodes, filler and wire for specialty processes and applications. We had full assortment at work but the old timers that retired took their secrets with them.
Reply:Could have been some of that O/A filler the muffler guys used to use, Steel but more of a brazing type process that didn't require melting the base metal.
Reply:I'm thinking Docwelder is on the right track. I was in an automotive assembly plant. For the most part the welders worked very little sheet metal. They mostly dealt w/ mild steel or shafts. Eutectic as well as UTP did supply us w/ electrodes. Our "run of the mill" consumables came from Air Liquide.
