I have been gifted a used Bishamon pallet jack. nothing fancy just your usual pallet jack that raises a couple of inches off the ground. so the question is what can I make out of it that takes advantage of it wheels? thks bobbobs77vet/37ford4drEastwood digital TIG200HH190Lincoln Invertec 155sLincoln weldpak 100sears/craftsman (lincoln) 50a 240v buzz boxO/A rig Harris gaugesnexion cut 50 dxchicago electric (HF) 240v spot welder
Reply:Get some pallets and use it as a pallet jack. Pallet jacks are really handy.---Meltedmetal
Reply:Sell it. Put money towards skidloader. Profit.
Reply:I made cross bars 2 1/4 inch from the floor on all my work tables and can move them everywhere, for me it's better than tables with wheels.
Reply:There's a guy here in Denver who modifies a pallet jack substantially and uses it to lift and transport Bridgeport type mills. Works very well.
Reply:if I had a bigger shop I would be tempted to leave it as it is. I would have to rebuild the hydraulic cylinder but I have two car garage so space is at a premium. I was thinking of cutting it up and just using the steel for a fun project that is yet to be determined. I can see where it certainly would make a nice lifting mechanism for a welding table. but my table is pretty small about 24" x 42" a pallet jack under it may be over kill. maybe its time to make the table a little bigger.bobs77vet/37ford4drEastwood digital TIG200HH190Lincoln Invertec 155sLincoln weldpak 100sears/craftsman (lincoln) 50a 240v buzz boxO/A rig Harris gaugesnexion cut 50 dxchicago electric (HF) 240v spot welder

Reply:My pallet jack was one of my best purchases. I switched from putting wheels under everything to putting stuff of skids. My equipment is still movable but being on skids they are a lot more stable. For example, my shop press is on 4x6 skids and the with the pallet jack I can move it easy as pie. I also use it to move my knee mills but I fortunately don't move them often. If you have a knee mill, a pallet jack is the easiest way I've found to move them (aside from a forklift but a pallet jack is more maneuverable in my shop). I pick the mill up with my crane and slide the jack under on some cribbing. Right now the pallet jack is being stored under the under the car, I just pull it forward until the bumper is close to the handle. I'd definitely recommend rebuild your pallet jack.

Reply:thks for the input, a hydraulic rebuild kit is $35..... let me think about building a bigger metal working/welding table and design it for the jack to stow underneath it. if I make the pump handle removable and just use the foot release it should stow easily.Last edited by 37ford4dr; 12-23-2014 at 07:46 PM.bobs77vet/37ford4drEastwood digital TIG200HH190Lincoln Invertec 155sLincoln weldpak 100sears/craftsman (lincoln) 50a 240v buzz boxO/A rig Harris gaugesnexion cut 50 dxchicago electric (HF) 240v spot welder
Reply:I agree... use it as a pallet jack. Once we bought the forklift for our shop, we started putting everything on pallets. Wasn't too much longer before we bought a pallet jack for the tight spaces, trailers, etc. The forklift and pallet jack are the two most used non-farm equipment we have on the farm!Andrew

I'd think a hydraulic jack on wheels with one or two foot arms/legs? would be really useful, maneuverable and kind of a cool project.Kevin.http://www.lsfdesign.comMiller Millermatic 211 MVPMetcal STSS-002
Reply:If i ever have to sell equipment to eat, i would sell 3 of my 4 welders before thinking about selling my pallet jack. 5500 lbs capacity, with some wodden blocks you can move a car sideways or use it as a floor jack, a heavy plate to unload, move your table next to the truck , load it and in the shop you go., easy peasy. I can re-do my shop layout in 5 minutes with it. Comes right after the dog as man's best friend + no food no poo. |
