I'm a noob to weldingweb but have been tinkering in the shop my whole life thanks to the old man.  Anywho thought I'd share some pics of a recent project that I completed for a local city.  They do a loaner bicycle program (Think village bicycle) and wanted a "bicycle sculpture" for the park.  I know the mayor and he asked what I'd do it for.  Being's its going in the park and I can show my grandkids it someday I did it for material cost.  Here she is:

Reply:Cool project. I too am interested in the finish. I'd like to see it installed also.
Reply:This must be a down hill only bike. Those are some sweet bars!
Reply:The finish is powdercoating.  Bright yellow like the "Village Bikes" it represents.  Here it is awaiting install at County Shops.

Reply:If this was a trailer thread, somebody woulda commented on the lethality of those handlebars sticking out to hook unsuspecting park visitors. Reply:Very nice.  The old man must have some really cool tools.  I can see the hot work on the seat but wonder if you rolled the rest or used a bender.  It looks like you did what some of us do, collect a bunch of bends and then sew them together to make a project.Hopefully the city will want three more and when you tell them you only do one they will discover the value of your work.  I can see it right now, bids of $5,000.00 each when a commercial operation attempts to duplicate it.life is good
Reply:Where's the cranks, sprockets, pedals, and chains? Cool none the less.

Reply:Looks less cluttered and more like a sculpture without it all any way. Someone donating time and energy towards cycling caught my eye since it is something I enjoy. I donated a bunch of bike frames to an artist. recently, his install was around 15ft tall and 4 ft square.
Reply:That's a big 'un.  Bicycle's are cool in their own right.  While I couldn't honestly call myself a "bicycle guy" I'm a sucker for a project that challenges me and is for a good cause.  I've done quite a few freebies over the years just to ensure I got the experience.  It's a matrix : )  The enjoyment factor can easily override the wallet factor.  I suppose easy to say when I don't do it for a living though.I think it is awesome, are you going to post a picture of it installed? Great job.
Reply:Better without the pedals, chain and sprockets.  Too many "Pinch Points" with them thrown in.  Very nice work!30+ yrs Army Infantry & Field Artillery, 25 yrs agoMiller 350LX Tig Runner TA 210, spool gunLincoln 250/250 IdealArcESAB PCM 500i PlasmaKazoo 30"  vert BSKazoo 9x16 horiz BSClausing 12x24 lathe20T Air Press

Reply:That looks super and a great idea, But i'm not sure why its called "the village bike" cos in the UK if you told someone about the "Village Bike" they'd be talking about a woman who's had every one in the village
