Shouldn't a 3/4" shaft collar be exactly 3/4" inside? I got some at Ace Hardware to use on some 3/4 tubing and they don't fit. I measured the tubing and it is exactly .75, then I measured the shaft collars and they are under .75 WTF. That's when I noticed the shaft collars were stamped "China" This sucks as I can't really think of a way to safely and evenly ream the insides of the collars with the equipment I own. If I could find some US made ones I wonder if they would be true?Miller Challenger 172Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC 225/150Miller Maxstar 150 STLVictor 100CVictor JourneymanOxweld OAHarris O/ASmith O/A little torchNo, that's not my car.

Reply:I'd put them in the lathe and cut them a little. I get mine from graingers and they are always a perfect fit. I've also got some from Enco and they also fit with no problem.
Reply:Drive a screwdriver in the gap to wedge it open and slide it on? Start with a 2-piece collar?
Reply:It's probably a 19mm collar that they figured would be "close enough" to 3/4". Ruland makes nice shaft collars. Theirs are spec'd over the shaft size. I got some from MSC about 5 years ago. Don't know if they still carry that brand.http://www.ruland.com/index.asp"USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder |
