Hello,I just bought home a Lincoln electric 180HD and was in the process of setting it up. I unhooked the flux core wire end from the little hole in the spool and about a quarter of the roll unspooled. I rolled it back up, secured the spool on the drive and went to feed the wire, but as soon as I let go of the spool (to feed the wire), the thing just unspooled another quarter spools' worth.I just finished watching the LE DVD and they do state to not let go of the spool otherwise it could unroll but they don't go into detail how you can prevent it.Is feeding the wire a two handed operation? I'm guessing it must be because as soon as I let go off the spool, the thing just unwinds itself.
Reply:Are you setting the spool brake tension with the thumbscrew per the manual?http://content.lincolnelectric.com//...r/im/IM891.pdf - Figure B.4MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Yess, loading wire is a two handed operation---Do not, at any time, lose control of either the roll or the end of the wire until both are where they need to be...the roll on the spindle, the wire in the feed tube/rollers and clamped...You just got a lesson in what happens if you dont maintain control---
Reply:Thanks for the input. I did set the thumbscrew but even though it was pretty tight, the spool still spun freely. There is a yellow-ish plastic collar that was on the thread originally but I couldn't get it back on. When loading the spool, is it1. Spool on first2. Plastic collar3. ThumbscrewIs the plastic collar required?I'll try again tonight when I get home. |
