OK, I finally have my AC/DC stick welder (Miller DialArc 250).  I'm writing to Santa to see if (s)he'll bring me a Scratch Start TIG Setup.  So, Santa Spouse will get the right stuff, I want to ask for a reasonable setup.  For a hobby welder...maybe a size 17FV torch; I don't know.I've never done TIG so I have to go on your suggestions about the right gear.Fire away!I really have no idea what I am doing. Two Shop Cats (not Bobcats...real cats)Miller DialArc 250 AC/DCScratch-Start TIG SetupMIG 175Plasma CutterO/A
Reply:Man, I sold exactly what you need last month... 17fv with dinse connector.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

Reply:17 size torch with gas valve would work. In roughly the same amp rating, I'm partial to the CK 130 9 size torches myself. You give up about 20 amps at the top end vs CK's 17 size torch, but it's a much smaller more maneuverable torch and uses the same size parts as the 20 size water cooled torch if you ever choose to go that route. Having said that I'll admit I have 17 size torches on both my tigs, mostly because that's what they came with. If I have to replace one, say on my Maxstar, I'll definitely go with the smaller CK 130 torch. You will also need a flow meter and hose to hook up the gas. HTP has a decent deal on a flow meter several guys have picked up. I've been eying one so I don't have to steal the flow meter off my Syncrowave when I want to do tig off my Maxstar..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan

Reply:You could call Paul at HTP America (www.usaweld.com) and they can hook you up with everything you need except argon. Al;ternatively, you can hit amazon. I bought one of these and it worked pretty well.  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:Gents, thanks much.  I think I can leave some direct hints around the house now!...Maybe in the dryer, refrigerator, jewelry box, car seat, etc.I really have no idea what I am doing. Two Shop Cats (not Bobcats...real cats)Miller DialArc 250 AC/DCScratch-Start TIG SetupMIG 175Plasma CutterO/A
Reply:Pin a diamond ring to the note in the jewelry box. That will help your odds.Burt _____________________Miller Syncrowave 250Millermatic 211Miller 375 Plasma Cutter Hobart Handler 12010FtDrillBit.com
