Reply:Cab looks reasonably intact. Hopefully the driver was wearing his seat belt. The SA will need some work. And I cant imagine my toolboxes turned upside down and dumped out.Hobbyist - At what point is a "hobby" out-of-control?

Reply:On a similar note, label your stuff.....For those of you who take tools/equipment out on the road, how many of you have your name, address, phone, business card, or some similar means of identification inside the toolbox (or engraved on bigger items)? If you have a mobile business, your entire livelihood is on board. If its lost or stolen, is there any way to trace it back to you?About a year ago, my son and I were driving home one night in a snowstorm, noticed "debris" on the road & a large object in the ditch. The debris turned out to be a bunch of hand tools & consumables, the larger object was a toolbox. Rounded up as much as we could, then took it home. Two of us could barely lift the toolbox, it was heavy. Obviously belonged to a weldor/fabricator, and probably everything they owned. Dug through it all, no identification whatsoever. Finally found a dirty/waterlogged legal document in the bottom of one of the drawers, name & PO box from out of state. Google search turned up nothing at all. Next morning I gave it to a local detective and told him the story, about an hour later the rightful owner showed up to claim his gear. He was grateful to have it back, also admitted a ratchet strap was not the most secure method of keeping valuable items in a flatbed truck.Hobbyist - At what point is a "hobby" out-of-control?
Reply:If more people would do that this world would be a much better place. Kudos to you and your son for your hard work in helping the owner get his missing tools back.HF 90 Amp Flux Core Customized.

Reply:My father in law lost a Sawzall. He just said *&£% it. My mother in law put an add in the paper. About a month later a guy called them and said he found the Sawzall and used it to build a garage. He offered to pay for the blades and rental of the tool. My mother in law had that "I told you so" look. My father in law just couldn't believe the guy offered to pay for the blades he used.
Reply:I found a Sawzall on the side of the road. It was from a local glass company. I called and told them that I found it and I would drop it off when I got back home. The owner said no you keep it. He explained that if I had enough decency to return it I should be rewarded for being a stand up guy. On that day I switched the glass company I was using. I probably gave him 4~5000.00 worth of business. We did car stereo systems. So glass and mirrors where a big part of the show. I was 16 or 18 when this happened.  I offered several time give it back to the business. The old man wouldn't hear of it. After he died I still send people to that glass shop. You just don't find that type of good people very often.
Reply:If that happened around here everything would be gone including the truck and you would have a better chance finding ice cubes in hell than any items from that scene.
Reply:I was driving down the highway one day when a car in the oncoming lane swerved into my lane to miss a big box. Thinking it was empty but a hazard anyway, I stopped to pick it up. Turned out to be a brand new walker that had come off the top of a medical supply van. Found the shipping slip and phoned the company. Took them forever to come and pick it up, but they did leave a hat that I would never be caught dead wearing (oh yea, I want an f'ing wheel chair ad on my head...). Sure hope they give me a discount if I ever need one some day... Between the rails on my toolboxes and under drawers in hard to see places I have put my social insurance number. If they ever show up in a police station with stolen stuff they'll be able to track them...250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes

Reply:Leave your names off of everything as you are more likely to be sued for something than get it back. Toolbox in the middle of the road gets hit, then the driver has neck pain for the rest of his life, and ohhh look, you name is on everything.
Reply:If it's in the middle of the road beside your overturned truck, I'm thinking they would identify who's it is pretty quick anyway. I know Colombo would...250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes

Reply:So your tools, marked with your name, are stolen off your truck. You didn't report it, just pissed and moaned. They are later found at the scene of a crime right behind your local LWS. Whose door do the police/attorneys dome knocking to for some 'splanin. I have never lost tools or equipment off a truck. I like to strap, bolt, chain them down so they don't fall off or walk off. Leaving a trail of tools could get to be an  expensive habit, though I know guys who lose stuff all the time.
Reply:I dodged a ice chest in the road the other day. As I was passing it I noticed what looked like drills and tools scattered as well. I think they had been using the chest as a tool box. I didn't go back since there was a lot of traffic and wouldn't of been safe to even think about going out in the road.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
