I've been gathering the stuff to build me a table and waiting to see what size plate I could come up with. I found a piece of 1/2 stainless that I can get a real deal on, guys just wants it out of the way. What are the pros and cons of using it on a weld table?BigTee
Reply:If you can get it cheap, there really are no cons! Stainless will stay nice and clean without rusting and make for a nice grounding surface anywhere on the top, it's also going to be sturdy enough for just about anything you need at 1/2" thick. That's a good find in my eyes!Real welders know how to penetrate!(Equipment)Whatever can be used to beat my opponent into submission!
Reply:How big of a piece did you get?
Reply:I can get 40" by 54" out of it I think. It has a piece cut out of the corner of it, it's about 70" longBigTee

Reply:That would be awesome! Hope you get it.

Reply:I built a outside welding table at home out of stainless. Worst thing I ever did lol, but keep in mind mine is outside. All the grinding dust still rusts on it, along with all the spatter. When I clean it up with a grinder it is so shiney it blinds you from the sun reflecting off of it. Very hard to work on so lighting in your shop is something to take into consideration. I really wish I just used a steel plate at this point. The polished glare is just ridiculous. Just something to keep in mind.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:One of the only down sides is you can't put a magnet on the bench to hold stuff
Reply:Sounds kinda like a waste to me. It would rust so fast with all the weld spatter and sliding steel stuff around on it, and magnets wouldn't work, and it's waay more expensive. It only makes good sense if it's a stainless-only tig welding station for like sanitary work.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:get it!1/2" stainless will be strong, but as others have said it will still look rusty if you build mild steel stuff on it.just be careful how you attach your legs. it will warp and pull if you put any heat in it. lots more than mild-steel wouldbosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin
Reply:Don't do it you'll hate it, had a table at work with a stainless topper can't recall what we did with it.

Reply:If it is cheap I would snag it up and stick it in the corner for some project(s).Personally I love my aluminum top and if I were to actually build a table I would most likely use aluminum. I don't use magnets around welding.12v battery, jumper cables, and a 6013.I only have a facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/VPT/244788508917829 |
