Hello all...newb here.I'm just getting in to mig welding and want to get a good machine...I was kicking around the idea of a Home Depot special (Lincoln 180hd) but after lurking on this site I quickly learned I shouldn't make that mistake.

Reply:Miller 211 if you need to run on 115volts. Linclone if you want rock solid performance. Reply:Not sure what you have read but the Lincoln 180hd sold at Home Depot is not a bad machine. Reply:I'm miller guy, so I vote for the 211, I love mine. I call it my little Hot Rod welder. Very tunable compared to my tapped 185. That is also a great machine, just have to tune your style. Reply:I know I put one of the 180 hd's through the ringer. It was a neighbor's and it really impressed me. I don't mind a tapped machine. I have used them for years. I also have used continuous adjustment machines to be honest you won't be able to tell the difference. Just learn to read the puddle. I know guys that fiddle with the settings till the cows come home and still blame the machine for the poor performance.What do you want to do with your welding. If it were me and I was just a hobby welder I would look at hobart. They are inexpensive and a great machine. Miller and Lincoln won't let you down either.

Reply:Lincoln used to make an Idealarc SP-200. Huge thing, 200A output at 60% duty cycle. Reply:I still think for the price, portability, and multivoltage option, the 211 is hard to beat. I only bought mine for its portability, and I think I paid either $1050, or $1150 gotta check my receipt, but that also included cart, and the spoolgun which I havent even tried yet.
