So I wanted a new saw. And buddy of mine, has the Dewalt DW872 carbide saw. And I really liked it. So I started at Lowe's and Home Depot websites, ended up on amazon, and even looked at the evolution chop saws. Looked into the cost of replacement blades, (for each although they will interchange) I had decided on the evolution, but then started looking at reviews, and did not like what I was seeing and decided to go back to the Dewalt. (as I knew what I was getting into, having used my buddy's for years) After settling on a saw from amazon, I did a quick search on craigslist. And stumble across a saw for sale at a pawn shop. And figured that at a substantial price drop over new it was worth a look before I went new. Now here is where the fun begins. I call the pawn shop to verify they had the saw. (they did even though the add was a few weeks old) So I head over, to get my $325 (plus the assumed +tax) saw, and on the way over I decided I would haggle with them if the blade was trashed. I arrive and discover that the price on the saw is $279. I check out the blade and it is trashed. (more on that later) The guy says you called about this didn't you. I said yeah. I get told we have it on CL a bit cheaper than the tag states. They look up the ad on CL and its still $325. They say we will honor the $279 price, but if you get cash from the ATM across the street we wont charge you tax. (as they considered it a person to person sale via CL and not a business sale) but if I was going to pay with my debit card they wanted tax because it then went through the business system. A bit upset I asked where the ATM was. They said across the street. Then I get told by the owner since I have my 4 year old with me, and the construction will make going across the street a 30 min ordeal (no left turns permitted, and hence the reason i was a bit upset) So it would involve driving arround the block and back all the while getting my kid in and out of the truck several times. The owner says I'll eat the tax, use your card, and we will do it for 279 out the door. This dropped the pre tax price to $255. At this point I could not argue about the trashed saw blade and took her home. So I got my $500 chop saw and picked up a new blade for 2/3 the cost of new. So I get the saw home, and decide to look and see why the previous owner unloaded it. It looked almost unused. I soon discovered the aluminum shavings that were on the saw, behind the fence. And realized what happened the ferrous blade was used on non-ferrous materials and trashed it almost instantly. Hence the reason for taking it to the pawn shop. I also noticed oil residue when I went to replace the blade. It looks like the genius thought that adding oil would make the blade cut aluminum better. After a blade replacement and a few test cuts. I'm really happy with my purchase.After saving the cash on the saw it was time to start looking on how to spend the savings on another tool. (as I had already gotten approval from the wife for the $500 for the saw) I then found a decent belt/disk sander on CL for $100, came with 6 extra belts and disks. One roller has a nice big chunk missing (but a new replacement was also included) I snatched it up and it works great just needs to be cleaned up and I need to weld on some leveling adjusters and it will be great. Reply:I have the same Dewalt DW872 saw.  I have cut steel and aluminum rectangular tube with it.  Is cutting aluminum with it that much of a problem?
Reply:The blade that is loaded with aluminum will come clean just by cutting a few passes on steel. GGive it a try, the blade is likely fine.
