Hi,I am looking at getting a welder to do some body work. Unfortunately 220V is out of the question. I was originally looking at getting a Hobart handler 140 for $480. However, a Lincoln Mig Pak 10 just showed up on the internet local for $350, it includes the welder, a cover, cart and a bottle of gas, he claims he used it for one small project and it looks brand new in the pics. I can't find a ton of info on this welder as it seems to be a previous generation one, so what are your thoughts on this welder? Is it a good price, will a new Hobart 140 be worth the $300+ price difference($480+taxes+cart+gas tank)? Thanks for your help guys, and by the way I plan on picking up the Lincoln tomorrow so any input you have would be appreciated before I actually pay for it.Wup
Reply:well, i guess non of you guys use these 110V units. Im picking it up today, hope I am not throwing money away but Ill let you know how it goes.
Reply:There is some good info about the MIG-Pak welders in this thread:http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=8189http://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories
Reply:After much research, I was either going to get the HH 140 or the Lincoln 140. I too have no way of getting a 220v line put in. I'm also new to welding and really don't need anything that powerful anyways. I found a great deal on the Lincoln and bought it, plus I can get any replacement parts and wires at HomeDepot. So far I've done some welding with fluxcore wire and just hooked up a 75/25 tank. I highly recommend pay the extra money to to the gas hook up.Good luck and let us know how it worked out for you.Last edited by mutant; 09-10-2010 at 04:50 PM.Reason: added info
Reply:The mig pak and sp units are all them same. There are three different drive systems. The changes were "improvements". The handy mig units that were made in Poland. They have a left and right hand case.Lowes has the left hand case. The LWS units had a piece of metal in the drive. The current power mig units are the same except for the drives.LWS units have a metal case to the gear housing. Home center units are all plastic.Transformers and mig guns all the same between the same class of welders.
Reply:Picked it up the other day. Haven't had much time to play with it but seems to work great. For $350, for the welder, cart, cover, bottle of argon mix and regulator in like brand new condition i think I did well. Thanks for your help guys.
