Im always out in the field welding, I use my angel grinder to sharpen my tungsten all the time...  so I pulled the trigger on a cheap tungsten grinder. Well see if its worth the 230 I paid for it.Miller Pro 300 SS w/ cat Miller Bobcat 250Miller Diversion 165 Miller 211Miller Xtreme 375Miller 12vsMiller Dynasty 200 DX Miller Passport Plus w/ Spool GunMiller 30a spoolmaticLincoln AC225 Buzz Box VictorMathey Dearman - H&M

Reply:Do tell us how it works!I'm addicted to this stuff:[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GPeCC6CWQw&feature=related[/ame] I keep the jar open on the table. What I do is unscrew the back cap and let the tungsten about 1" beyond the nozzle. Then I strike an arc on a bit of scrap for about 1.5 seconds, enough to heat it up nicely.  then i start dipping. after I get a nice point I clean up the residue on the tungsten with a little wire toothbrush.  I don't even have to leave my seat

Reply:Ive been using a dremel and diamond wheel to sharpen tungstens. Got the idea from someone on this board, dont remember who. It works great and I don't have to dedicate one wheel on my bench grinder anymore. At least some of the handheld tungten grinders use the same motor as the dremel anyway and a diamond wheel so it's basically the same thing dressed up a bit and with a couple hundred tacked on the price. The diamond wheels are cheap here and they last a really long time: http://www.widgetsupply.com/category...ated-disk.htmlI stick the tungten in an old cordless drill instead of trying to hand-spin it. The drill is always on/near the weld table and I just clamp the dremel to the edge of the table so it's all pretty convenient.
Reply:Yea I see where the DIY tungsten grinder comes in. But seems like a hassle to have to have a dremal a clamp and a drill sitting there all the time to sharpen tungsten I would rather spend the money and look professional on a weld call. Now if I just welded at home I might go that route..Miller Pro 300 SS w/ cat Miller Bobcat 250Miller Diversion 165 Miller 211Miller Xtreme 375Miller 12vsMiller Dynasty 200 DX Miller Passport Plus w/ Spool GunMiller 30a spoolmaticLincoln AC225 Buzz Box VictorMathey Dearman - H&M
