My work is selling our Lincoln Precision Tig 275, here in York, PA.  Here's the craigslist ad for more info:http://york.craigslist.org/tls/2716140408.html
Reply:How much are you asking for it?
Reply:$4000Was never even hooked up to electric here, and was purchased new from Indiana Oxygen around last May if I recall.
Reply:1.  That welder DOES NOT need a 125/150A service to operate properly.2.  Upgrading from 100A to 200A service is a relatively inexpensive process.Someone's not doing their homework here...Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:I must have been misinformed then about the installation of this machine. The manual here shows a 125a fuse/breaker needed in section A-2 for 230v input http://www.lincolnelectric.com/asset...OLN3/IM702.pdfThe current building we're in has two 100amp services coming in, split outside, with one standard and one 3 phase. We did have a local electrician come in and recommended we don't install the machine with our current wiring situation (some also being aluminum wiring still) I don't know too much about electrical wiring personally and can only go by what the boss has told me.In either case, we haven't used the machine since it arrived and could use the extra room for now.
Reply:91,That machine will operate fine on a 100A dedicated breaker.  Know what the book says, but they're being somewhat conservative (safe siding it).  Miller actually says the same thing for their Syncrowave 250 and I've been running them on 100A breakers for 30+ years.Upgrading a 100A primary service to a 200A service is not a big problem.  The power company (at least here in VA) will upgrade the lines to the meter base at no charge to the consumer (they like more power being used).  Then you're talking about a new 200A panel (about $200) and new circuit breakers (<$250 depending on the number).  Service entrance cable (from meter base to panel) shouldn't be a whole lot depending on distance.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:Opps. Looks like someone didn't buy the optional "Power factor correction kit". Runs about $300, and will solve your breaker problem. I would feel confident running off a 70 amp breaker with the PFC installed. It never ceases to amaze me that manufacturers and salesmen still try to pawn off transformer machines  without PFCs. Reply:I believe the PFC  makes the Syncro 250 pull 44 amps just idling. Seems like it would be best for most people to just run on a 100 amp line. 4 amps at idle is easier to take. My Esab 252 will weld at any setting on a 100 amp line. Pulling a new line was cheaper then putting in PFC. Now I can run my lights, air compressor, plasma cut  at 100 amps output no problem.Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i
Reply:I have to really take exception with the comment about PFC.As Brand X already mentioned, it's not the initial cost of a PFC conversion that gets you.  It's the power the machine pulls when idling. For the average small shop/hobby welder, PFC makes absolutely NO SENSE.  There is no such thing as a free lunch.Granted, PFC allows for the use of a smaller breaker, however, the higher consumption of power when idling will quickly negate any savings in wiring.  Much cheaper in the long run to just upgrade the service/wiring to accomodate the machine.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:I will say PFC in my new little Thermal-Arc 161s makes a whole lot of sense. It seems to have no issue welding at 110 amps (Stick) on a 20 amp/120 volt circuit. I seen that before with my little 38xl plasma cutter. 29 amps output on a 20 amp /120 volt input circuit.  Better then most new machines out. Seems like inverters respond to PFC, and I wonder why they are not always included???Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i
