my hair brained scheme sa-200 shorthood related

so i just leaned that a linc-welder is started by running 24vdc through the generator and using it as a starter . I also know that i can start my shorthood by using another running sa-200 and jumping the generator. would 24vdv be enough juice? i could run 2 12v batteries and find a 24v alternator of a tractor and make it fit.  i know 40vdc is what they are rated but .....???????

Reply:Does your unit just have a crank starter? I've got one of those, starts on the second or third crank, zero problems even after sitting for literally months.
Reply:the crank is great i just want to be able to put it in my truck bed and still start it without clearing a bunch of space
