This is an awesome site,..  Ive been reading random post for a couple weeks now, and I  am really impresed with the imformation i have gathered from reading,  I have a question for those who have restored the lincoln weldanpower, and the like,  Is there a good way to clean the machine , (under the hood),  Ive blown it out,  but its  rusty and flakey,, and id love to hit it with a pressure washer,  but thats probably not a good idea,  besides the two circut boards iam not sure, being carefull that i could do more good than harm,  maybe a 30 degree tip at 3 feet and then blow it out after?  What do you guys think??    Its a 225/ weldanpower / onan ,with the cv tap,  code is 9108  Thanks for the imfo, this is a great site,  Eric
Reply:Always good to see another Michigander on here.Welcome, I'm a newbe on here too, what part of Michigan are you in?John
Reply:Welcome to the forum kubotakid. If you don't get carried away you can use a pressure washer "under the hood".  I do and did so on the little Weldanpower 150 I refurbished http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=30753 and now belongs to my son (Brink ME).  If the sun shines up there where you are a few hours in the direct sunlight after a thourough air blowing doesn't hurt.  You'll likely get a lot of the old coating off the stator laminations and it's up to you if you throw some paint on it afterwards or not.  I typically don't but if you do just don't get carried away again and lay it on too thick as that could hinder cooling.  You're not going to get down inside the laminations like original as it's dipped when new but a little new color on the outside couldn't hurt in the Aesthetics Department. If you don't yet have the unit manual, you can get it here http://www.mylincolnelectric.com/Cat...t.aspx?p=32077 off the Lincoln site.FYI, we like project/job pictures.Member and machine refurbisher 7A749 uses Simply Green, Mean Green or something like that green for cleaning boards and I just use dish soap, warm water and an old toothbrush.  Blow dry when done.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:John R,   Iam just outside of lansing
Reply:Duane,  I just finished reading you 150 rebuld,  VARY nice,..I looked up my manual,And I have to admit I dont read elec schematics very well ,  If I print it out itl prob help,, I bought this 225 about 10 years ago, a good runner I was told butt the gen head was fried, Well I had previousley bought one that the moter was stuck, And its been siting in storage every since,  After I found this site, I soon realized how smart you guys are,  And I figured I could probably fix the welder myself with your help, well the first welder I bought, (bad eng}didnt have the cv tap, code 8551, The one that was fried did,  And i need to be able to mig,    Any way..... Finding a site like yours and the step by step instructions, is a god send,..I dug out the one with good moter and fried head but has the cv tap, blew it out, cleaned slip rings etc, fired it up and sure enough hardly any juce, on outlets or weld taps,  started lookin for bad connections, and noticed down on the bottom of the fire wall, a little square black junction block with  # 34wire broken off, there was just a little piece still sticking out to attach a fine jumper lead, to complete the circut,  I said a little prayer a fired it,  WOW, the light bulb was bright instead of real dim, when i touched the weld terminals I had real power not just a little spark, Iam not sayin its all better now,  But,...Iam real optimstic,, when I figure out what #s 33 and34 hook to, ill order one, and mean while waiting for parts  give it a good cleaning,  I ll take some snap shots and try posting, latter today,  AGAIN   thank you guys for a Great Site,  Eric
Reply:Eric,The item you described is a "full wave bridge rectifier" which is basically four diodes arranged in a specific manor to convert (rectify) AC (Alternating Current) to DC (Direct Current).  There are a couple things going on here but for the welder/generator this DC voltage is used to create a magnetic field from the rotor that allows the unit to product weld and power output.  If I've over simplified the description for you I apologize as I don't know what you know about electricity.A replacement can be had from places like Allied Electronics, Ralph's Industrial Electronics, Newark Electronics and others.  Maybe even Radio Shack if they still sell anything other than cell phones and RC cars.I'll look up a couple numbers and post them up for you but it sounds like you may have "lucked" out.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Thank you dewane, Yes there are 4 terminals on this little block  1.5 square  and 1/2 thick,  only two have wires numbered, #33, 34  the code for this welder is 9108,  I looked it up on the site you gave me,  but couldent find  the wire numbers,  I need to get a paper copy and study it,  Thank you for the help, Eric
Reply:The Lincoln PN for the one in your unit is T13637-1 and you'd have to order it thru your local Lincoln Service Center. Here's one from Allied http://www.alliedelec.com/search/pro...px?SKU=5030204 that would do the trick and would be about 1/3 the price or less than the one from Lincoln.Or you could go to the competition and use this one http://miller4less.com/advanced_sear...sort=1a&page=1 from Miller4less.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Thanks Dewane,      Lookin at the pic of the part you selected,  thats is the one I need, local lincoln didnt have in stock,  not a big rush , so Iam going to give the thing a good bath and make sure thats all I need , before i order,  I am considering buying a parts manual for this machine,  Depending on cost,.some of the internet prints are kinda fuzzy. and reading scematics is not one of my strong points, One question I have when cleaning and restoring these machines,  what do you sugest using on selecter switches, for lube and protection after the cleaning, to keep em free and to prevent arcing,  Thank you ,.   Eric
Reply:I use white lithium grease in a spray can.  They shouldn't arc because you're not supposed to change settings while welding.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Ok,.. got the dont switch while under load,. I was just wanting the best possable connection while under load, seams like machines that have sat for long periods of time, would be prone to arcing under load,  Iam thinking of preventive maintence thats all,  Thanks  Eric.
