First off "hey" to all members. New on here, been welding about 10 years. My question is in regard to a ranger 250, 126 hrs on machine. Machine runs great works fine a generator but does not always want to weld. I have had. a few places look at it, 1 cleaned the brushes twicce welded fine while machine was there( 2 visits) worked for awhile when I got it home then same thing. Went another authorized shop had machine a month, I was in no rush and wanted it to repeat past performance. It did, diagnosed problem as possibly one of 2 boards. However he was unable to aquire test boards from lincoln so recommended replacing both boards(1700+ dollars) the unusual thing is it apparently worked fine with a foot pedal!! if boards failed why should this work? Other question (have not purchased a footpedal yet.) would remote amperage control work same way? Can I somehow bypass board(s) and make this a working stick and tig machine?Any help with this problem would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Reply:Model code# would be nice, problem is that when a board fails, you get no arc, not sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. There are a couple different models of the 250's, thats why I/we need that #
Reply:Thanks, had #'s written down didn't think to post. Ok in order off machine k#,code and serial K1725-2. 10752. U1001113376. My impression was the same should either work or not. I have cleaned and checked connections for corrosion/bad connection found nothing extraordinary. checked pot for amperage contoller appears ( not sure of what resistance value as nothing on potentiometer) resistance seems to increase/decrease as one would expect.machine has never been abused maybe should have run the h*** out it when I bought it (lol) If there is any other info you needand/or that would be helpful let me know have multimeter but no osiliscope.Last edited by PurdyWelds; 09-29-2010 at 04:58 AM.
Reply:Send me your email address and I'll email you the service book on that unit. i've had one too many questions on that remote switch, The toggle has to be left "UP" It's for contactor control only. that may be your problem.

Reply:Originally Posted by RancherBillI would recommend you re-solder all the large components on the boards. It will probably not be any of the ICs. There is a procedure / precautions to follow when fiddling and soldering the boards. If you don't know good electronic procedures, take the boards to a TV repair shop or similar. You don't want to really smoke the boards with poor procedures. Let them re solder both the boards. Should be an hour or less.I wouldn't be using them until they are re-soldered. You might really let the magical smoke out of the board. |
