Ok yall here it is I need (more want than need) a scroll roller trying different things and the wifey wants some curly shelf brackets. My requirement (personal preference) is that it be made in the USA and manual powered cuz hydraulic aint in the budget.  So far all I have found after hours of searching and a few phone calls I am seriously looking at these http://shopoutfitters.com/store/inde...index&cPath=15 Does anyone know of any others besides metalcraft that I am overlooking? Advise/suggestions?Ranger 250 thick stuffHobart Handler 140 not thick stuffthe pane and oxy setup
Reply:If it's not for full time use, HF sells a similar scroll bender attachment.http://www.harborfreight.com/scroll-...l#.UxkaNs6CWSoKeep in mind even the Shop outfitters one you posted is designed to be used as an accessory, not a stand alone item.If you are going to hot bend, you can make your own scroll jig. I know I've posted up links to youtube videos on this subject several times. A search will pull up a lot of suggestions on how to make up scrolls..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:DSW the one I would be considering is the bench mount version and making my own stand for it. I am thinking cold and on a jig for speed ease of handling and repeatability. I spoke with shop outfitter today and am waiting for their catalog to arrive before I pull the trigger.Ranger 250 thick stuffHobart Handler 140 not thick stuffthe pane and oxy setup
Reply:You could make your own. My Harbor Freight scroll maker has a max material size of 3/16' thick and 1" wide. I needed a bigger capacity for a job and made one that will handle 1/2" thick and 1 1/2" wide. It takes a cheater handle about 6' long to bend 3/8" thick 1" wide. I don't know what I'll move it with if I ever try 1/2" thick. Two turn tables and a microphone.
Reply:Check out the stuff Baileigh Industrial has to offer.  I have no association with them other than they are based in Wisconsin.  I too am looking at a scroll bender along with some other equipment and their stuff looks pretty good.  They have a package deal with 4 different tools that are all manual.  They do make some very impressive looking power units also.
Reply:I have been looking at the BAILEIGH too. I was thinking of a road trip there but it maybe costly. Here's some goodies. http://metal.baileighindustrial.com/...mental-bendersUniversal Bender MPB-15      001-99874  $395.00   http://metal.baileighindustrial.com/...-bender-mpb-15  This one sounds pretty slick. Here's what they say, If space is limited and you are in need on a machine that can do variety of functions, then Baileigh Industrial’s MPB-15 universal bender is perfect for you. This ornamental metal bender offers three machines in one and is capable of scroll bending, radius bending and angle bending simply by swapping out the tooling.  The MPB-15 has the ability to bend wrought iron, mild steel, aluminum and much more. The MPB-15 isn’t just a flat bar bender, because it can bend rounds, squares, rectangles, or any number of other profiles. The MPB-15 has a mild steel capacity of 5/8” round bar, 19/32” square bar, and 1-3/16” x 5/16” flat bar. This is a great universal bender for producing ornate accents on fences, gates, railings and much more.
Reply:I was looking at the MPB-40.  It can do bends, scroll, twists and comes with a shear also.  It is for bench top mount.  I will take a look at the MPB-15 also though.  I have to say they have fast response time.  I requested a catalog and got it the next day along with a hat they sent with the catalog.  I am sure I got it fast because I live not too far from them but they sent it out really fast.
Reply:The price for the Baileigh mpb-15 seems real nice, looks like a nice bender too.  However, it does not state specific max capacity for scrolls.  Also, it only appears to come with only one scroll pattern. Hf bender is decent for up to 3/16".  After you modify it to make it smooth, then you can stamp, remade...in whatever country you reside. You can easily make your own scroll bender. Then, it will be made in "Moible".  On second look the baileigh mpb-15 looks limited. Unless you make dies.
Reply:I really liked the baighleigh and was considering them and called to find out where there are made and the tech said Taiwan so that that removed them from list. If I need a bigger capacity machine I will make one probably make one, if the need arises. So far it looks more like the shop outfitter pieces will get it done....Ranger 250 thick stuffHobart Handler 140 not thick stuffthe pane and oxy setup

Reply:Originally Posted by Larry KCan you bend soild rod with the MK2/3?  And if so, what is the max size it will bend?  In the video I saw, it only showed tubing being bent.  I need to bend soid rod, nothing crazy big.

Reply:Broccoli1, thanks for that great description on this bender.  Gives me even more to think about when deciding which one to buy.
Reply:Well the shop outfitters bench mount scroll bender arrived today. Now I need to order some flat bar and round stock.Ranger 250 thick stuffHobart Handler 140 not thick stuffthe pane and oxy setup
Reply:AH MANNNNNNNNNN !  Looking forward to your review. $200 isn't bad, too bad they don't have free shipping.
Reply:Well here it isThe piecesThe product 1/4" round, 1/8"x1" and 3/16"x1" flat bar. There is a little learning curve here for me but all thing considered I am satisfied with the bender. This is the quick run down on it. Ranger 250 thick stuffHobart Handler 140 not thick stuffthe pane and oxy setup
Reply:That looks good. Nice variety of material too, thanks. How do you like the machining of the parts ? Did it come with instructions ? Like you stated, learning curve and trial and error. I guess experience will be the best teacher.I'm still thinkin about one. I would set it up with a receiver tube mount.

Reply:Hey, thanks for taking the time to report . I'm retired and I never have enough time.    THANKS
Reply:That seems to work great!Glad you went with the shop outfitters one. I have it also, and use it often. It is a very well made unit. I have used the harbor freight one and did not have good results with it. The die on the harbor freight hits a flat spot when it swings around and you end up with the flat spot on your scroll. It tried shimming and such with it. It was ok but not great, it was also very sloppy. The shop outfitters is a solid unit.Ya gotta spend money to make money!
Reply:Very nice! I as well am on the lookout for some sort of scroller. I am thinking I will build my own and just cut the dies on the cnc table. I did a little scroll work not to long ago by hand in the vise around some different sized pipes and whatnot. I also need to build a slip roller. So much tools, so little time. KWS, could you please post some pics of just the initial scroll start piece on the handle and how it locks or attaches to the second part of the scroll die?http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...er-scroll-work
Reply:VTP I can do that when I get off work tonight.Ranger 250 thick stuffHobart Handler 140 not thick stuffthe pane and oxy setup
Reply:VTP sorry about the long delay kinda in the work eat sleep mode until Friday morning this vid gives a better look than any pics I could take in the dark. The only difference is my handle stays inside the small cam via a set screw other than that everything is identical (other than this is on the tube bender base) and the way the two halves work together and the handle.Ranger 250 thick stuffHobart Handler 140 not thick stuffthe pane and oxy setup
Reply:Thanks! That is a pretty slick tool! There was no rush on the pics or anything. It is another tool that is on the far back burner for me. I wish they would have showed using the other half of the die. Really for that video it wasn't even needed to be around. lolLast edited by VPT; 03-26-2014 at 10:36 PM.
Reply:I think anyone with the ability to forge iron would be as irritated at this as I am. I'm going to leave it at that.

Reply:ckobesko I really don't remember what the exact price was I can dig around the house and see if I can find the receipt. As far as the stand I just bought what you see in the picture and drilled four holes in my fab table to bolt it down to.Ranger 250 thick stuffHobart Handler 140 not thick stuffthe pane and oxy setup
