Ok, so I have a 72' and It wasnt re-charging any battery I put in it. I took off the DC generator and had it rebuilt by a certified rebuilder and then re-installed it..... Still no charge when I run the machine. Now every single photo or documentation on these machines that I can find has an alternator of some kind or another. Has anyone worked on one with a DC generator? Im guessing something very simple is wrong with the wiring, but Im not familiar enough to successfully trouble shoot it. My positive battery cable is connected to the bracket that the Gen mounts to. I get no reading at this point. I know Im missing some critical basic thing here.... Help please I just spent good money getting this gen rebuilt!!
Reply:Go here: http://www.mylincolnelectric.com/Cat...t.aspx?p=30253and get the OP manual and parts lists for a '69 (shows generator). PDF text states that the ground cable for the battery w/generator is positive. W/alternator is negative. Mine is a '73, code # 7214 and has been converted to an alternator. For the correct wiring diagram call or email Lincoln with the code number on your machine and request the wiring diagram. Numbers are on the above website along with the email option. With rebuilt generator and a good voltage regulator and the correct wiring it will work. We also flashed the field (if I remember correctly?) on the voltage regulator, for the correct polarity after replacing parts to this type of system, too. A certified rebuilder should be able to walk you through the process. Good luck with your machine!Last edited by gizzardgutz; 11-14-2010 at 01:28 AM.Reason: added textOnly when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money. -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches
