I have a belt sander that I use just about 4-5 hours a day. I have been running harbor freight sanding belts but they are junk really. I would like some input on what you guys have found fo good quality belts. I don't mind spending a few more $ per belt, but they gotta last. I'm doing good to get a few hours out of a HF belt. It would be much to get a few days from one. Thanks for any input.Offering CNC Plasma cutting and welding projects.Follow me on facebook https://www.facebook.com/nobigdeal.fabSupport those that support WW.
Reply:I use sait/ united abbrassive sanding belts, pads and their cutoff wheels. All good quality stuff. 3m stuff is my second choice because its a little more pricey by me.
Reply:At your consumption rate, you might want to order a variety of brands and compare!  You can pretty easily do a $ / hr of run time for each brand and choose the most cost efective.miller syncrowave 250hobart handler 140home made 400 amp engine driven in progress...

Reply:Originally Posted by NoBigDeal FabIt's a pedestal mount. 6X48 belt. I clean all my stuff on it after cutting on the CNC plasma. As the flat surface makes it easy. I modified the rest on it so it sits with0 clearance to the belt. Just slap yourpiece on it and sand. Works great. I really need to start using muratic acid vs sanding though. The problem is I have no place to store chemicals away from animals and kids. (my shop is at home) so belts it is until I am able to afford a commercial shop.
Reply:The HF 6x48 belts are aluminum oxide.  That's fine for wood, and even for steel, but the slag created by plasma cutting will eat it right up.  Move on up to zirconia belts.  Don't worry to much about who makes them (better manufacturers will have a better seam, and will track better).  ANY zirconia belt will be worlds better than aluminum oxide.
Reply:Ceramic. By far the best. Same initial cut as zirconia, but last much longer. A good ceramic belt is not even comparable to HF stuff, they are way, way better. 3M cubitron is good, Norton Blaze seem to be the best, but both are too expensive. Sait seems to be the best bang for the buck. BTW my experience has been on mostly stainless so YMMV.For belts: www.supergrit.com For custom belts: www.econaway.comFor discs and dynisher belts: www.lehighvalleyabrasives.comIan TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
Reply:I have been buying from Pop's Knife Supply and using 3M, Klingspor and Hermes.
