what's meaning of this sentence?

today ,i saw this sentence"all plate edges shall be 500 R.M.S or less" this sentece appeared in plate preparation,i don't know what's meaning of it ,please interpret it thanks

Reply:Googling it, turns up that it is a measure of surface roughness. Reply:The STARRET brand is usually the best but I couldnt find them. The MSC surface gauge in the link above goes from 2 to 500. Your spec said less than 500 so the MSC RMS gauge should be fine for your 500 or less RMS call out.Last edited by Insaneride; 03-17-2016 at 10:52 AM.
