How to become pipeliner?

I am wondering, what do you have to work on gas fields or oil fields in Alaska or Canada? Because after trade school that's where I want to go for work. Any help?Lincoln 140 Pak MIG Everlast powerarc 140 STLincoln Tombstone
Reply:I would say you kind-of have to know somebody. im thinking of heading that way myself (towards pipelining) and a buddy of mine instructed me to first take some specific safety classes, and then come see him. unless you know which company(s) are actually running the work and contact them.aside from the obvious stuff like truck, welder, tools, and I have heard to get on most places you need some pretty hefty insurance on the truck, you know in case you back into a valve and cause a b.p. spill or something hoping others may chime in as I would like to hear others' experiencesbosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin

Reply:Buy a $40k truck a 10k bob king bed, a new sae-300, a 40ft all seasons fifth wheel (brand new if course) a boat two jet skies and a Harley. Then show up to a weld test you weren't invited to (bust a couple but blame it on the dick inspector) and then your a pipeliner. Fake it till you make it. But seriously you need to go find a helper job in a boom town and work for a year or so then you'll build contacts to work with. It takes dedication and time I worked 12 hr days and would practice in the dark after work a few nights a week for months before I took a weld test. Once I made my first test then I learned how to really weld, it takes time and is frustrating. Good luck
Reply:pipeline work in Alaska is pretty much all union. Don't know about Canada.I worked in a non union fab shop in Anchorage for about 8 years building processing modules for Prudhoe Bay. You might be able to get on with one of those contractors, but you practically have to be up there already to get hired on, unless you have a pretty impressive resume.

Reply:You need to learn how to weld pipe first. It's not just something you read a book on and get into. It takes a lot of practice and a good teacher to help you. Once you can weld pipe joint after pipe joint and visual inspection the. pass X-ray or UT every time, your ready. Reply:Try to stay in school for about 5 years. Maybe by then there will be some work. In case you haven't noticed things are a little slow in that industry right now.
