Continental F162 & F163

I have tried the "search" function and found all sorts of stuff but cannot find the answer that I seek from the Lords of welding wisdom. I bought an SA200 Shorthood today (code 1903) that's a 1951 model and am wondering about the engine.  According to the owner's manual that I pulled up online it has an F162 in it and I want to know what the difference is between the F162 and the F163. Reply:Interesting.  Bob Miller (Central CA) just asked the same question over on the Miller forum.Basically, the F163 has larger crank/rod bearing journals than the F162 and a slightly higher compression ratio (7.4:1-vs.6:1). Reply:Mine is certainly the 162 then, it has an oil filler cap that looks like a screw on cap for a for a piece of gas line or galvanized pipe! I also noted on Bill's Welding Repair's web page that the rebuild cost for a 162 is quite a bit higher than the cost for a 163 rebuild.
