Finally got a TIG

Been looking at TIG welders for 3-4 years now and finally pulled the trigger on buying one. Now I just need to get everything else. Not sure about the compatibility between Argon bottles here and my current regulator but I'll prolly get something cheap to hold me over till I get back state-side. And nobody mentioned anything about 2 handed torches when I was researching

Reply:I've had my eye on one of those 2200i TIGs for a year or so now and haven't found a whole lot about them in the way of reviews and testing on the web, please keep us updated.  Don't forget about the 100 day guarantee, if you end up not liking it you can send it back.  I hope you don't need it but just don't forget that its there.I bought myself a C200i MIG as a graduation present for my associate's degree and want to pick up a 2200i when I complete my bachelor's degree, sometimes I need the extra motivation.~Alex
Reply:Well still no gas bottle but I stopped by a hardware store in Bitburg and grabbed some cheap 6013 rods and some brackets to tear up. I had to strike an arc on somethin. Wasn't the best idea to grab the particular metal I did as whenever I got near those holes I would just blow through. First thing I did was went straight into MIG mode and started pushing the rod lol. After boogering up one bead that way, I started dragging and things got better quick. Still managing to blow right through when I got near the holes (I'll prolly try to find something more solid next time). Once again, still half way in MIG mode I had to keep telling myself the rod was getting shorter lol. Having been 2 years since I've had my hands on any welder, I'm not doin terrible. My movement is off and I gotta get my head around the fact that it's not a MIG and I'll start doin better.As far as the machine goes the arc was real smooth and quiet (just me that wasn't). I'm lovin it so far. The manual on the other hand is garbage. Aside from the spec sheets and how to navigate the menus, there's very little useful information. I was trying to figure out what the initial amps is and the only mention of it out of all 3 books was "a few ampere".Metal mic'd at .115 and I was using a 2.4mm rod at 65 ampsLast edited by Snuffy; 10-25-2012 at 10:53 AM.
